For the third time this summer I have had compatibility problems with my 9.5 yr old pc.    I need a new one.

What does GD suggest.   I don't do any online gaming.  Just general computing stuff.

Refurbished Dell Optiplex 780, around $100. Add 24" Dell monitor. Best deal in computers I've ever seen.

Depends on your price range, but for pre-built desktops I'd go Dell.
If you really just need a newer low end computer look at Dell's Inspiron series and get the one that you like, if you want a little more computing power then step up to the XPS series.

I'd go with an i5, 8 gigs of ram, and whatever sized ssd you need that is 250 gigs or larger. You can always buy something and buy a samsung evo ssd and install it yourself which might save some money.

The SSD isn't needed for basic computer work but it will make the computer feel faster than any other upgrade and is well worth the 100 bucks or so it will add.
