Well my department has given us auxiliary officers the go ahead to get the BDU style uniform our full timers wear. We can get the 5.11 BDU or the PROPPER public safety BDU in dark navy. This is summer so the top is a POLO style blouse. If you had the choice what one would you go with? Thx.......Trapfan.

5.11.  The Proppers just don't last and look like crap after about 10 washings.

5.11 even looks good when it starts to fade.

We've worn the Transcon uniforms for a few years now and have just been approved for the 5.11 TDUs.

Comfortable and look good even faded.

We use 5.11 pants for many range, FTO, and detective assignment.  They work great and seem to hold up to abuse.

5.11 is my choice for most items except undershirts.  Still use underarmor there.

When you wash them for the first time (before wearing them) wash them in ice cold water, no detergent and (depending on how many uniforms you are washing) at least one cup of IODIZED SALT per uniform set. This will help SET the color into the uniform.  Trust me, I wear BDU's for my Agency everyday, and the color lasts a lot longer for me than anyone else.

Run warm water into the machine, enough to get the salt to dissolve, then switch it to cold water.  No detergent and no fabric softener.

After it has washed, run the rinse cycle again.  Then wash as normal.  I normally just wash them, let them dry (tumble and air, no heat) and send them off to the cleaners for a pressing.

My local cleaners do a good job when I am in a hurry.  They wash them in cold, and press the hell outta them.  Heavy starch when I am not outside all day, light starch (or sizing if your cleaners will press with it - mine will as long as I supply the spray sizing) when I am.
