Hey guys,
I have been looking to get a new MP3 player for running, hiking, and biking. Music helps pass the time. Anyway, I was looking to get something very small and that was suited for workouts. I checked out the new Shuffle and it looks interesting. Price increase of $10, but memory is now 4GB. It looks like this one is controversial though, due to the controls being on the earbud cord- also some people have said the controls are hard to use while running, and another person claimed that sweat easily shorted out his earbuds (twice). 
Ugh, might have to skip this and get a "2nd Gen" shuffle instead, with only 2GB capacity for $69- if I can find one in a non-gay color. I'm not getting a pink one. Might have to get a 1GB model actually. 
And I hate to support Apple, but honestly there isn't good competition right to the shuffle from anyone. Anyone else have a shuffle? |
| I have that 2nd gen shuffle for running. I typically don't use iPods as an MP3 player due to iTunes. However, there are some apps/scripts out there where you can drag/drop your MP3s to the Shuffle then the app/script will build the library without iTunes. It works pretty good. I just leave the script (no install required) on the Shuffle. So when I connect it to a PC I simply move my files, run the script, disconnect, and fo. |

Won a raffle last week and received one of the new shuffles. While the size is great and everything, I feel like I am going to make a misstep and destroy the controls. First time lifting weights with the things I found myself being overly cautious as to where the bar was going as to not smash the controls. Also the controls seem really high up on the cord, falls about an inch below my chin which puts it in a sort of blind spot where I actively have to look for the thing.

I loved my 1st gen shuffle. When I got it, I thought, "It CANT get any smaller!!!!"
My 1st gen died a week before the 3rd gen came out. When I saw the 3rd gen, I hurried up and bought a new 2nd gen. The 3rd gen is too small for my liking. I use linux, and a program called rhythmbox. Rhythmbox works just like itunes, and allows me to charge and edit my itunes playlist. I wiuld recommend the 2nd gen. The only thing I dont like is it is not intuitive which button is which. Sure, after I crank the volume up (Thinking I was moving ahead 2 tracks), THEN I know which way the controls are oriented. |
| The 3rd gen one looks horrible. I personally can't stand the stock apple earphones, they hurt my ears and fall out. At least with every previous one I could use headphones or earbuds from any mfgr. I might pick up a 2nd gen one but I wish the money grubbing assholes would include an sd card slot, as 1-2gb isn't really enough. |

sansa clip has radio on it. drag and drop music :) adjustable EQ onboard. sounds great. cheap. i got my 2 gig for 30 bux a couple years back. for a portable mp3 solution i am happy. i dont like apple much unless your total idiot on the pc. i gave my mom an ipod because she coudlnt figure out how to drag on drop on her phone. itunes makes it easy for anyone. |
I have the 2nd Gen shuffle and I love it. I love it and I can get Glenn Beck on podcast. Don't have any problems with ITunes either. When my computer got fried and I'd lost everything they forwarded my entire library of purchases from them at no charge and no hassle.

I got 2nd gens for my wife and groomsmen about two years ago. All use 'em for workouts, all love 'em. Battery life is obscenely good.
I played around with a third gen while waiting for an iphone swap-out a few days ago. The controls suck. The 2nd gen was a nice enough unit, but this thing jumped the shark. And when you burn out the 'phones (not if, when..), you need to replace 'em with apple replacements for $80. Maybe that wouldn't be so bad if they sounded like $80 'phones, but I've been underimpressed by the sound and comfort on stock apple buds. They're frequently outperformed by units costing less than half that. |

Get this. Call around to your Wal-Marts, and one should have the 8GB on sale for 49.99. I got it about two weeks ago and haven't had to charge it yet... |

Ipods don't have AM/FM radio... it seems a lot of people don't understand this until after they buy.
My wife really likes her Ipod Nano and Nike+ pedometer that tracks/uploads her runs to nike.com and she can chart her progress. It costs alittle more and then you need to buy the Nike+ shoes... but to her it is worth it. |

Dude, this is so funny. So I went into WM to buy my 2 gig silver gen 2 that I had them save for me. I happed to see a Sansa Clip. It was $44 for 2 gigs. A little digging around, I found a black 8GB sansa clip (on clearance) $49. It has an organic LED display, drag n drop goodness, and it was $19.87 cheaper. So yeah, I ended up buying the Sansa. It's bigger, heavier, and possibly less durable than the Shuffle- but having a display and 8GB of memory, plus being cheaper (I'm pretty frugal)... yeah. I'll go for a run today and give an AAR! 2.5 miles, it's no marathon, but it's a good run for me. |
