In contrast to a bunch of the high-stepping handflappers around here that would 'kill it with fire', I like tarantulas. I've captured three of them wild in western Utah and kept them as pets, one of them was very nice and I would let it crawl all around on me. My friends have a picture of the spider climbing down my face, but I don't have a copy of it.
Nice- go get some better pics! |

Yuck!
Watch out for the black one (I think they used to call them Asian black tarantulas, think it's from Asia rather than Africa), I used to have unpack those sons of bitches at a wholesale place, they can be nasty as hell. Your brown one looks gigantic- possibly a goliath bird eater or an African baboon spider. If it's either one, it'll be nasty too and slightly dangerous if a baboon spider. |
| I helped out one of my neighbors last Sunday with one. He said it jumped out while he was cutting his grass... he's an animal guy that has dogs, cats, birds, snakes, fish... all kinds of pets, but can't handle spiders. I removed it and relocated to my yard. I think it was a female(?)... pretty big. |

EEEeeEEeezzzuussss christ man. That made my flesh crawl. I have only one phobia and that's arachnaphobia. That said, also cool. I'm happy to check them out from a zillion miles away via the internet. ![]() "Fuck you! I'm a Tarantula!" http://www.skerb.org/images/0ed98870.gif AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! My last encounter with a tarantula, it was a little one, probably only about twice the size of a silver dollar. Damn fool little guy thought it would be a good idea to hang out under my car in the garage. Didn't notice on the way out and came home to a tarantula pancake a couple hours later.

| OP-how big are they? the brown one looks like a nicely colored Chilean rose hair. I don't think it's a babboon, but the only baboon I have seen was the Usambara orange-definitely not what you have. If bigger than about 6" it could be a Goliath, but can't tell for sure by that pic. Goliaths are usually quite chunky and weigh as much as 10 ounces-I think the record was something like 12, and the owner was trying to get it to reach a POUND. Goliaths and baboons are nasty, as already mentioned, but goliaths aren't very dangerous. I've read that they're like an extremely bad wasp sting. The baboon, on the other hand won't kill you, but you'll wish it did for a couple hours. The black I know nothing about. |

Snakes I understand, but who would ever want a pet spider, much less a FREAKING HUGE one? Do you hold him? Well at least it's easier to find if it gets out. Seriously though, some of the creepiest animals can also be the most gentle. Many tarantulas will just climb on you and chill, and never hurt a hair on a persons head. I had snakes for years, they would love to "cuddle" you because of our body heat. One of the cutest things I've ever seen an animal do was at a pet store, they had a baby boa on the counter, and it wrapped itself around the guy's coffee. |

| One thing to add, you might want to get rid of the cedar bedding and get some aspen or repti-bark(made by Zoo-Med). The oil that makes cedar smell good is toxic. When I had reptiles that was the second biggest warning(first was the common sense warning of wash hands after handling). |
I used to catch Ozark Tarantulas around here when I was a pup, and they'd calmly walk around on you with no problem, but these are my first foreign ones and I know nothing about them. I keep them apart because that's how I got them, and I have no idea whether they'd fight. I don't want them killing each other, but I also don't want to find out that they'd mated and suddenly I have hundreds of babies running around the living room. I believe that I would blade at a 45 degree angle if that happened.
I'll try to get some better pictures, with something for size reference, but if you're familiar with aquarium sizes you'll get an idea of size knowing that it's a 10gal aquarium they're in. |

I recently saw a little spider while I was in the shower. First spider I had seen since about November. I may or may not have squealed like a little girl... ![]() I saw a tiny one this morning also in the shower. I let out a little squeak then hit it with my shaving cream canister. One flat spider. |

I LOVE reading all these guys with thier "high speed/low drag, double tap head and chest shots, god please let me shoot someone someday" get all weak kneed and whimpy when a picture of a spider is posted........ Oh yeah tough guy? If a commie or an Islamist bites you, your fucking arm doesn't fall off a day later. I'll remain more scared of spiders, thanks.
