Anyone use them?

It seems like an easy way to get a system without spending hours researching and spec'ing parts which saves time and is beginner friendly. As a bonus, it seems they offer discounts when you buy in a combo.

Depending upon which one you get, it looks like all you'd really want to add to an order is maybe a SSD and some RAM.

Thoughts?

Also a good way for Newegg to package and dump slow moving products.  Good rule of thumb is MicroCenter for a motherboard/CPU combo and comb through Newegg sales for everything else.

If it has what you want it's good.

Odds are it's slow moving products and such. A lot of lower end i5s and the graphics cards nobody buys (non X 290s and 960s and the like...)

Assuming a budget around $800 for a scalable system for general use and gaming, what would you build?

I can't recommend any specifics but going with an AMD over an Intel processor will save a few $.  I've had several of each and I think the AMD's are a pretty good value-same thing with video cards, both brands are pretty neck and neck.  Cases are cases, not a huge difference in cheap ones and expensive ones.  Always easy to add $10 fans later if needed.  One place to not skimp is power supplies, getting a big enough one up front will give you the option of a bigger video card later.  Refurbished hard drives save a few more $, my current PC has a hard drive and a SSD.  I got a small SSD for games and the hard drive for everything else.  Was much cheaper than a big SSD for everything.

tiger direct usually has some good deals going.

But I would spend the time and source the individual parts vs doing a bundle. Just my OCD preference there
