I had no idea these things were even on the market until recently.
Years ago, I bought one of the much maligned-shooting crony models. The Oehler 35P was no longer made during that time. My biggest complaint about it was always how non-user friendly it was. For expedience sake I never used any of the features and just manually recorded numbers. Later when the Oehler I almost bought one but never did since what I had works. Well, in a recent move it looks like I lost enough of my chronograph to where I might as well buy a new one. I was really surprised to see some innovative new products on the market. I've seen some bad reviews on both and am wondering how overblown they are. Basically the mangetospeed doesn't work so well with pistols and the labradar can be hard to setup and sometimes picks up other people shooting around you. I like that both can be setup at your bench. I used to hate holding up the firing line screwing around with my chornograph at public ranges. So, what do you guys think about these? They both look pretty user friendly. Poll coming. |

I own both a 35P and a Magnetospeed. The Magnetospeed is really handy for doing a quick velocity check, you don't have to shut down the range to go fiddle about with it. I can strap it on, fire five rounds and dismount it before I can get the 35P set up. Because it is attached to the firearm, I don't use it for accuracy testing. The 35P excels when I have the range to myself, have all day to faff about, and want to shoot groups as well as check velocity and spreads. |
| I had never heard of this until I saw a Midway ad today for it. Quick review of their website and ARFCOM tells me this makes a lot of sense, but a bit pricy. But compared to time it takes to get a regular chrono set up, replace parts that end up getting shot at some point and having a lot more freedom to move your weapon around...count me in when the budget allows. |
