First post? Is that you Trent? No, just another ARG. And the internet remembers that Trent doesn't like some of his fans. |

oh yay, more static'y looped bs to a nnn'ts soundtrack and background noise. WTF happened to the general bad assery that was pretty little hate machine and downward spiral... ![]() Nine Inch Nails - Closer (Director's Cut)

I use to be a big fan of NIN but I feel he just tries too hard to recapture pretty hate machine and the downward spiral and the new stuff just does not cut it. The new stuff is great in my opinion. The "weakest" (although its still an excellent album) is with teeth. I actually think his music and more notably his live performance is much better now that he is sober. If you also take the time to listen to his film scores, its worth it. Its all been top notch. |

I prefer not to give money or support to someone who hates me and the things I value. Well, the weird thing now is looking at politics as a father. My kids walk in the room and I’ve got CNN or MSNBC on and I have to hit the mute button because I don’t want to get into a discussion about how embarrassing the president is. He’s a fucking vulgarian. Aside from whatever ideological beliefs he has — if he has any — he’s a grotesque person who represents everything I hate. I’m repulsed by everything about him and he’s the president, you know? I haven’t figured out how to rationalize that to my kids’ beautiful little optimistic minds. I grew up in a shitty little town full of Trump voters so I think I can I understand the point of view of someone who supports his message. What I don’t understand is supporting that messenger. |

I know he doesn't like Trump and watches the garbage on CNN and MSNBC, and that bothers me, but I still enjoy his music and pay for his records. He's had a big impact on my life personally. Particularly because he got sober. In fact he and Trump are big inspirations of mine because they are both sober. Trump doesn't drink because his brother was an alcoholic who killed himself.. jumped off a roof. |

I can't say that I fault you here. I'm probably hypocritical in my pevious statement with my purchase of Blu-Ray discs full of Hollywood liberals that feel more hate toward me than Trent Reznor. At least the movies aren't beating me over the head with a political statement. The last NIN CD I heard was one big antiBush production. I'm guessing his live shows spout the same message. Maybe you can enlighten me on that front. Quoted:

I pushed the button and elected him to office, and He pushed the button, and he dropped the bomb You pushed the button, and could watch it on the television Those motherfuckers didn't last too long I'm sick of hearing 'bout the have and have-not's Have some personal accountability The biggest problem with the way that we are doing things is The more we let you have, the less that I'll be keeping for me Well, I used to stand for something Now I'm on my hands and knees Turning in my god for this one And he signs his name with a capital G Don't give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala Don't really see what all the fuss is about Ain't gonna worry about no future generations And I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out |

I love Add Violence so far. Couldn't give a shit about Trent's politics. I liked Hesitation Marks as well. I did a lot of work with him when he lived in New Orleans back before Katrina. I like him, nice guy, very focused, very smart and very creative. I don't need for everyone in my life to be a mirror of my thoughts. |

No, the live shows don't. I don't think they even use a screen anymore with any visuals, just a light show with them playing music. It was more elaborate in the past. They're not up there spouting some sort of political message at all. The only time they really did that was when they played at I think the MTV music awards and they wanted to use images of Bush while playing The Hand That Feeds. The cd you're referring to, Year Zero, wasn't really an anti bush CD except the song Capital G, the story of the record was set in a fictional universe in the future with a totalitarian government. But even that song, obviously being inspired by Bush, wasn't about him but self serving politicians in general. You could apply it to Hillary if you wanted to. At the time I wasn't exactly a fan of Bush myself. I've grown to appreciate him more after he left office. But I will say if you think NIN beats you over the head with a political statement, that's just wrong. There might be some political influence to a handful of his songs but he's said it himself that his music has never been about making a political statement, on the whole. I'd say hes one of the more humble and reserved liberal artists in that respect. And if he does stop during a set and speak to the crowd its usually something along the lines of this Good to know he stepped back from the political message. Let's see how he does after a few years of Trump, though. |

He moved to LA and the last time I ran into him was before he moved at the 2002 Super Bowl in New Orleans, I was working for David Letterman covering wacky shit for his show. We stopped and chatted. |

I do TV work, his manager at the time, Chris Risner, contacted us. I didn't even know who or what NIN was at the time, lol, but I must have answered his questions well enough we first edited the videos of maggots etc for their European tour's rear screen projection. When they returned we cut it into a MTV, back when MTV played music, 1 hour show. From there I went to his studio and filmed some cool close up stuff in an aquarium for tv ads for their upcoming tour. We did a bunch of other odds and ends and eventually shot and cut the video segues on their double CD, All That Could Have Been which I also got a liner credit. My shameless tiny IMDB fame. He moved and the last time I ran into him was at the 2002 Super Bowl in New Orleans, I was working for David Letterman covering wacky shit for his show. We stopped and chatted. |

That's really cool and interesting. And All That Could Have Been was actually the first real physical CD I had that got me into NIN. I had downloaded a lot of the music but that was the first real NIN CD I had and sat down and listenened to. Although what I had was only one CD not two.. it was a live album. Quoted:
