Shit was all trees back then, yo. We weren't exactly Hunter gathering to build small log cabins in the woods to escape from our McMansions in the city back then. Assuming monkey people were around back then, I don't keep up with that stuff. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

A 3000 pound herbivore. Either it ate most of the hours in a day to maintain that body size through an herbivore diet, or the quality of the plants it did eat was extremely high. That's a lot of weight to fuel every day. We weren't exactly Hunter gathering to build small log cabins in the woods to escape from our McMansions in the city back then. sweet zombie jesus! I'd shit my pants if I saw that lumbering down a trail... I'm SOOOOO glad they are dead.

I always think of herbivores as grass-eaters. That giant creature is 110 million years old. The "Grass" family of plants has only existed for ~70 million years, so it must have eaten a LOT of giant ferns or flowers or leaves. The Earth must have been absolutely covered in vegetation to support populations of these animals. That's what high CO2 does for you, gets you giant animals and plants.

Also, society should be pumping at least 10% of GDP into finding and cloning dinosaurs. Because science. Can't time travel into the future yet cause nasa sucks?! Go Backwards!!! |

ISTR from visiting the U of Mich paleontology museum that their Diplodicus has some original dinosaur material, i.e. not all of it was replaced by minerals.
Just what I remember, not gonna look it up. eta: might have been a hadrosaur (duck billed) |

Incredible.
Next to ancient Egypt, Dinosaurs are the next most fascinating thing on this planet. |

I saw a documentary about something like this once. They used the preserved dna in the fossil and mixed it with an amphibians dna (making sure they were all the same sex so reproduction is impossible) last I saw they were real close to creating a living dinosaur. Had to shut it off early though, the hot pockets we're done.. View Quote |
