I'm not talking about heroes. I'm talking about the Marvel/DC world of superheroes. What makes most of them "super" superheroes is some kind of magical ability (Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Green Lantern, Wolverine, etc.) or they are mega rich (Bruce Wayne & Tony Stark). The only superhero I can think of who isn't magic or a bazillionaire is the Punisher. Are there any others?

Technically, the only superheroes are those with a mutant, magic, divine, or other extraordinary ability. Everyone else is a hero, such as Batman, Punisher, & Iron Man.
Although I have heard that being mega-rich is a superpower of its own. |

Wolverine has no magic.....
He simply regenerates... (albeit quickly) What vertebrates in the wild do this? Salamander's for one! And while it's only a single organ...your liver regenerates as long as it is not overwhelmingly damaged. 50% regrowth in about 6 months. |

David Dunn played by Bruce Willis in the movie "Unbreakable".

Yeah, I think it's just the Punisher

The Punisher is really it. Though he was supposed to be an Anti-Hero.
As a kid I love when all the pansy non violent heroes would encounter The Punisher and get triggered. |

The original Green Arrow didn't have super powers. I don't know about nowadays..

I think at certain times, Ted Grant (Wildcat) didn't have any powers, other than being a heavyweight champ boxer.
Ted Kord (Blue Beetle) was rich, I don't think it was on the same level as Wayne or Stark. Nightwing and Robin were adopted by a rich guy. Mr. Terrific is just super-smart. There's probably more. P.S. DC>Marvel |

The Punisher isn't ever shown to be wealthy... but gets a shitload of guns and ammo from somewhere.

Gangbuster in the DC universe. Kind of a minor side character though. Basically a vigilante who beats the crap out of punks with a nightstick.

The Punisher is my oldest son's favorite hero because he doesn't have superpowers or unlimited funds to do stuff with, he just gets shit done with guts and guns. |

It's not Marvel/DC, but the characters from Dragon Ball Z are either humans, humanoid type aliens, or a hybrid of the two with no special powers. They simply learn to use life energy, or ki in the Japanese, to create big energy waves, some powerful enough to destroy planets. They also use the energy to make themselves strong enough to lift mountains, be bulletproof, and fly. It sounds like super powers, but technically the humans learn the technique and can still be hurt if their energy is not focused on keeping them strong. They also have to train and keep their energy in shape like you would a muscle. It's all based around a very inner strength sense of Martial Arts. Also the main characters are very poor and live mainly off of prize money from Martial Arts tournaments.

Good one. How about The Comedian, too? He was merely muscles and amorality. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Rorschach from Watchmen. Good one. How about The Comedian, too? He was merely muscles and amorality. They (and the Punisher) are not superheros - they are costumed vigilantes. |

Excluding Batman and Iron Man from the super power list would mean technology is OK, which opens you up to include people like Cyborg and RoboCop.

The original Green Arrow didn't have super powers. I don't know about nowadays.. The show has delved into some of the magic stuff, overall a decent tv show. ETA: Kinda waffled a bit in season 2 and part of 3, seems to hit its stride again in season 4. I've never had an issue with the portrayal of Oliver or Arrow, it was the supporting characters and their stories. Seemed like a cohesive season arc for the supporting cast struggled. Personally I think The Flash has done a better job as a whole through its seasons. I've given up even liking Agents, but Phil and Ghost Rider are enough. I liked Daredevil overall, cant wait for Punisher. Luke Cage was alright. Suppose I need to watch Jones now. |
