Cutting down Seattle's largest Hardwood tree

Glad someone likes doing this stuff.

Kind of expected to see hippies hanging like Christmas ornaments trying to save their beloved creature.

I guess all the legal weed has cut into their motivation.

Damn, I've rented a crane/Operator from that company before.  Looks to be just north of Seattle across lake Union.

Oh, and a typical Seattle day which isn't much different from here.

Great video, I've seen airborne arborists at work in conjunction with a crane taking trees down from the top, but nothing of that size.

Great video.

I cut down 7 small trees in my backyard and had some hairy moments...

Its funny, the easiest tree I fell was the biggest, at 45 feet tall....  it was within range to crush my roof too.

The hardest one had an angle to it, and it was very top heavy.  Me and the wife thankfully tied a rope around the top as a safety measure..

I need to learn to use felling wedges to help steer the tree if its growing off in another direction..

thanks for that cool video tho!

Wonder how much board feet they got out of that tree?

Elm - hardwood?

As far as i am concerned every elm cut down is a good thing.  Trash tree's and nothing more.

They are running good saws, there is that.

Looks like they could have added a guide rope to save the tree climber some pucker factor.

Great video - thanks OP.

I bet it cost them a fortune to have that removed.

I had an oak larger than that one cut down in my backyard 2 years ago, cost me $3800 for cutting and removal. It was worth every penny because that tree was beginning to lean towards my house even after we had some larger limbs cut off 3 years prior.

We've got a couple large Oaks that are leaning over the house.  We need to take care of these before the leaves come...

Probably rent a man lift and hack it down in sections...
