[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Not today, Sig 320, not today... (Page 2 of 3)

Quoted: https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/4827/IMG_0465_jpeg-3750509.JPG Should be easy to repeat if it is a design flaw and is defective…. Clearly not, as if it went off EVERY time he holstered his gun he would've have gone bankrupt buying new boots. This is an occasional failure that isn't easily repeatable in a given gun, but happens at a statistically significant level across the entire installed base of SIG P320s. |

Quoted: IMO the trigger pull on the SIG 320 SERIES is too light . I like mine but Ill never carry it for that reason. SIG needs to do something about it . It is about the only modern striker fired pistol WITHOUT a trigger safety. Unlike Glock, M&P, XD/XDM, P-10, ... ... ... ... Bigger_Hammer

Quoted: My P320 trigger is already too light, no way would I mess with it. I only carry my Glocks, but IIRC our Sheriff dept carry's P320s and I have not heard of any issues. I wonder if it's high round count P320s and the premature wear of the Indian made parts and just poor design leading to the UDs? My totally uneducated speculation is tolerance stacking. Meaning most are probably fine and will never have issues, and a few are waiting for just the right moment to blow your dick off. |

Texas Department of Public Safety has carried the 320 for about a decade without much in the way of complications or complaints. But TXDPS has always been a "Sig Shopper" going way back to 220 & 226 in the 1990's Bigger_Hammer

They've been carrying 320s for some time before that. I'm gonna go fondle my M1 carbine just b/c you popped off your mouth. |

April 2025? ![]() Attached File Actually TXDPS adopted the Sig 320 in June 2018 (so coming up on 8 years). Seems longer, but TXDPS (according to a number of Troopers I have asked) seem to really like the 320 and are not reporting having "incidents". Bogger_Hammer

Sig really went all out with the 320. Not many can claim a gun that works 125% of the time, it's not a flaw more like a feature. Also I dont buy the "it was modded for USPSA trigger group" excuse. There are tons of 25 cent trigger job Glocks and garage buffed 1911's that seem to not get caught repeatedly on video with UC discharges. |

Hammer fall is definitely a phenomenon, but how often the halfcock notch catches it... Hey, doesn't the P320 sear have a second shelf? |

I don't trust any striker-fired pistols. The SIG Sauer P226 is widely regarded in military and law enforcement circles for having a respectable, long-term safety record, with no widespread reports of self-discharge or "uncommanded" firing in its decades of service, including its use as the Mk25 by U.S. Navy SEALs. Still, safety is always paramount. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKD0S3KhwdI&t=82s |

Quoted: I'd rather see the M9 since our armed forces were using the platform so long. And I even dislike slide mounted safeties. It's the same 4-5 posters in every 320 thread. Even if they had a UC they would convince themselves they had put their finger on the trigger, something was in their holster, etc. It's an overcomplicated design, with minimal engagement surfaces, using MIM parts made in a 3rd world country. SIGs own testing showed a 30% striker block failure rate. That alone should tell you to buy something else. |

Quoted: I have a 320 it’s a good shooter but with all the stories and vids I will never put it in a holster. At the end of the day it’s a striker fired pistol in a market full of striker fired pistols. The thing that sets the 320 apart is the random shake awake feature, so why not just get a Glock, M&P, FN, CZ, etc…. This. I actually like the P320, enjoy shooting it. I would never load it and put it in a holster and carry it. There's too many other options. |

Quoted: No idea. The picture below was posted by my LGS today that happens to supply LE departments. Gee, can anyone guess why a PD would trade in a never fired never issued pistol? https://i.postimg.cc/Dz4gMRcn/Screenshot-20260421-202830-Facebook.jpg Not saying its the case here, but sometimes police departments buy extra guns that never get issued. And when they go with a different model, the new in the box models go as well. I have a gen 4 G17 i got with working night sights, 3 mags, new in the box for $350 from one of the distributors, can't remember. |

Quoted: Shut up. Science doesn't hold a candle to a good witch hunt. Did you learn nothing from the Salem trials?? That used to be my position, however, I also think that variations in components, wear, holsters, lubrication practices between end users, amount of banging against shit, vibration, etc, it could be a situation thats impossible to exactly replicate. As someone that works on machines for a living, I like to be able to duplicate symptoms. But, I can also understand that, in something as small as a handgun thats going to be carried, banged around, etc, by so many people, that may not be possible. |

If it was an actual chronic problem beyond the over powered ammunition Seal story every Beretta hater repeats over and over hoping to go back and change history, we would have heard about it. |

yes. shut er down boys |

Quoted: Would the thumb safety of an M18 prevent an UD? https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/130695/IMG_9668_jpeg-3750455.JPG Nope, because it locks trigger, not the sear. The search slipping off striker tab is what's happening in the uncommanded discharges.....along with the striker safety sticking in slide and not functioning because of its peculiar and odd spring system. Completely disregard that the sig365 is 100% different mechanically and doesn't seem to have holster pops. |

Quoted: Why do people still carry that giant piece of shit? It’s not like it’s a secret that there’s absolutely a problem with the design. Anyone who still willingly carries that turd is sharing in the fault at this point. My wifes sits in the safe unloaded. Its just a paper weight at this point. |

Incredible chain of events / Swiss cheese holes lining up happens in complex systems. Hidden states or non-considered state transition initiators and race conditions are dynamic behaviors that don’t often show up in static tolerance analysis, prototypes, or low population / short production run models. The fact there are a bunch of P320 units in service means a very low probability event gets a lot of ‘draws’ to hit the winning (losing) combination. Between that and confounding noise (actual shooter error) I don’t think there will ever be a solid answer. But markets don’t need solid info to make decisions on the margin. |

When the last agency I worked for traded in their Gen 3 Glock 22s we had several new ones sitting in the armory that were never issued. They let the deputies purchase their issued weapons for $250, if they wanted to keep them. I've owned numerous P320s over the years. Never had a problem but I also never carried one other than for a range toy and desert plinker. I sold them off over the last year. Not so much because I didn't trust them but because I'm downsizing. |
|
At this point I have to question why anyone would buy a 320 other than for a flux. We have so many good affordable options for handguns today. There are multiple options available for a striker fired polymer pistol that don't have recent recurring reports of just going off. Want a really nice trigger: Walther Want something the police carry: M&P or Glock Want to be a Turk: Canik Want to be a hipster: CZ Want something cheaper: Ruger Want to spend more: HK Want to buy a Sig?: P365 Want to have others judge you: Springfield Armory Want a gun that sorta kinda works: FN Want a gun from a company you forgot exists?: Steyr Want a gun from the oldest gun company in the world: Beretta I mean just look at that list and I know there are ones I left off. With so many options available. Just avoid the one with the potential problem. |

Incredible that it must have happened with his leg completely straight, otherwise he'd be missing part of his knee or thigh. |
