Considering - Many, many terrorist types have been crossing our borders and lying low; - The article in another thread about terror suspects buying firearms; - The use of American mosques to distribute jihadist, anti-American literature (courtesy of the friendly SA government) Does it sound plausible that terror cells are formed and training for a Tet-type attack throughout our country? When you connect the dots it sure looks like things are going in that direction. |
|
I honestly don't believe terrorists are going to use guns that you can buy at a gun show when they strike next. They are looking for maximum destruction. It is going to be improvised explosives, truck bombs, etc. Gun grabbers use every headline they can to justify why people shouldn't own guns. They exploited Columbine, then they exploited workplace shootings, now terrorism. Trust me, there will always be another reason to take our guns but I don't see terrorists using them. Of course, I could be wrong |
That's the type of attack I expect. Soft targets, large numbers of casualties, general chaos and confusion. If we've had these terrorists crossing our borders in significant numbers for years (which we have), where are they? Why haven't they carried out any attacks? I believe they are waiting for the appointed moment. This will be too big for Jack Bauer to handle. We, the citizenry, need to prepare. |
|
One area where we are vulnerable is economically. With four airplanes the 9-11 attackers made some pretty big ripples in our economy, especially the commercial aviation sector. Imagine the nationwide disruption if shopping malls, restaurants, schools, and public buildings went up in smoke. From Baghdad to Beslan they've showed us how cruel and merciless they can be in their murderous cause. |
Yes. We will, imo, experience multiple points of attack that will be designed to confuse, scare and paralyze us. All of these puzzle pieces are there for a reason, and not some random acts. They have been, and continue, to prepare for their jihad against us on our soil. These attacks will be designed to inflict a great amount of emotional and psychological damage on us, and it'll be hell for the muslims in the U.S. after this occurs. HH |
I say no. Saying its a Tet sized offensive makes it sound more coordinated and wide-spread than it would ever actually be. You'll always have isolated nutcases trying to disrupt the country, though. * post contains personal opinion only* |
Agreed. We'll be better off, as a country, when we wake up and realize we have a very real threat infecting our nation. Go on and get it over with, folks. <---tired of playing chicken little in a world full of sheep.... |
|
I would not be surprised at anything that happens. Even a series of mass shootings at shopping malls would be enough to cause economic disruption. Another Beslan here would be hell. The terrorist infiltrators may or may not be part of a single coordinated attack. Just getting AQ personnel in place, whether they attack or not, would be disruptive to some degree. I have heard thru the grapevine that several attacks have been disrupted in the planning stages since 9/11. They're here, and waiting. Ops |

It'll happen. Sorry to say, but I think the jihadists could come right out and say it and people would still bury their heads and pretend it isn't true. Following such an action will cause citizens to rage against Islam. ALL of it. I predict most people will no longer make the friendly distinction between those violent terrorists and other non-combatant muslims. We'll be calling for WWII type interment camps for all muslims and we'll happily persecute any who claim that faith. In short, they'll get the holy war they seem to want and it won't be pretty. |
| To all you people who say "bring it", what do you plan to do? Go out and start shooting everyone who looks like an Arab? Is this why so many people think CCW should be legal everywhere? You will still be prosecuted for killing people. I am all for owning guns and having CCW (which I have many guns and CCW), but not because of terrorists. I don't understand how you plan on stopping someone who has a bomb strapped to his chest that you don't know is there until after it has detonated, unless you plan on mass shootings of people that look like Arabs, or are Muslim. Are you going to draw your gun on a Muslim that looks nervous? If so, you will more than likely go to jail. That's not what we need. They aren't going to be lining the streets marching like an army. |
You don't have much of an imagination do you? SCENE: Mall. You're there with your family. Suddenly you hear loud pops from one corner of the mall and people start panicking. You look for the nearest exit and move for it only to discover someone with a mask on standing in front of it... SCENE: You are dropping your child off at school. Something's not right as they're getting out so you tell them to get back in, and as you speed off you see someone level an AK at your car... Basically... it's not "terrorist hunting season"... it's "get you and yours out of danger ASAP" I personally don't see myself as a hero, gunning down bad guys left and right. But should one of them step in my way while I'm trying to get my wife and I out of harm? He's getting turned off. |
I am POSITIVE about it. And I think that every responsible US citizen should know EXACTLY where all the Mosque in their city is and watch them closely. Sgatr15 |
Do you have any suggestions to offer? I am genuinely interested in hearing ideas for how we should respond to such a situation. I don't claim to have all the answers, but I detest the idea of being a sheep awaiting slaughter. |
While I'm not going to go out and buy a 5-7, I'm not so sure about the Body Armor statement. I think I'll keep my headshot practice up, just in case. |
That's why the baddies took to bombvests: because you can't combat them reliably without taking a significant risk of shooting innocents. |
|
only reason anything would happen with "gunshow guns" would be to disarm the civilian population - to make a latter attacks more effective/efficient/safer. Other than that, if they are smuggling in - they should just bring actual assualt weapons with them - cheeper and more effective. More likly use explosives - still cheeper and more effective. |
You're actually not very far from what might happen if we get attacked again. I'm not saying that i agree with it, but many, many people will retaliate against Muslims, Mosques, etc... You also have to be prepared for what could happen after an attack, the mass hysteria, marshall law, vigilante justice, looting, etc... Even though i pray for nothing to happen, i am prepared & i will not hesitate to retire anyone that threatens the life of my family. |
| I remember seeing a stat in Newsweek showing that more Isreli civilians have died from shooting than from bombs. Marketplace shootings are a very common tactic of terrorists in other parts of the world, so why not bring that tactic here? I think it is very plausible. This is a very good case for CCW, and having a long gun nearby just in case. A lot of people could die before local law enforcement could arrive in such force and organize a response to such an event. Look at how much damage two punk kids did in Columbine! How much worse could a group of trained terrorists do in a school, mall, government building, or a high-rise office building? |

In the spirit of this thread I'd like to share with all of you the prayer I say every night: Dear God, I am so Bored, There's just so many times I can watch the history channel! I daydream about it all the time so could you do the following......... Either let zombies attack NY, or let terrorists with guns attack a mall i'm shopping at I'm just itching to find out which is better, my .357 sig or my new 5.7mm iow! Oh and lord please let there be a news helicopter camera above me filming my every heroic action and kill, so that when I see it on Fox news I can see the caption "brave armed American defending his country against (zombies or terrorists)" ![]() Then I'll become a local legend at both my fav Gunshop, which has news clippings of me tacked up, and also at my rifle range where people come from miles around to ask my advice about the best cartridge for nailing a (zombie or terrorist) in the head So God, if you could give me either a Zombie attack or a terrorist attack, I swear I'll never watch porn on sundays ever again. AMEN. PS- I figure if all of us start using this prayer sooner or later God will get around to it. Maybe we could make it the official ARFCOM prayer?? |
I agree with you, brohawk. I believe that the justified and universal national outrage after 9/11 notwithstanding, many Americans naively believe that 'terrorism' is something that's gonna strike the large population centers, financial centers, means of transportation, or power production. In other words, Joe Lunchbucket in Cheyene, Wyoming does not feel as directly threatened by terrorist plots as 'Starbucks Steve' the Wall Street Banker. If the numbers I've heard pertaining to the infiltration of our borders by jihadist types are correct, your TET idea is, regretably, all-too-plausable. To cause widespread panic, I think they're planing to bring the Jihad to flyover country. I'm taking Over/Under bets on the percentage of Mosques left standing the day after the SHTF. I say 25%. |
Yes it does sound plausible and it could happen. I would see this as being a series (lot of) suicide bombers blowing themselves up in train stations, subways, high profile locations- albeit not heavily secured- in an attempt to assert their presence. but it would fall flat after a short freak by many of the weaker among us. They are much less qualified to pull off big attacks, as we have dealt them a very serious blow over the past 3.5 years. OBL has time and again called for attacks and............... [crickets] huh? [crickets] I agree with a previous poster..............."bring it, MF'ers!" Identify yourself, and prepare to meet your swine-virgins |
+1 |
But these people irrationally throw their lives away in attempts to kill us infidels. They don't think like we do. |
