Fox News was reporting this morning that so far, John McCain has raised a total of approximately $63 Million for his Republican bid for president. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have so far raised a combined total of more than $250 MILLION from their supporters. THAT'S OVER A QUARTER BILLION DOLLARS! John McCain has approximately $10 Million left right now. Unless he gets some massive infusions of cash soon, he's not going to be able to compete with either of the other candidates in terms of exposure and campaigning over the next 9 months or so. It's not looking good for Republicans.

what? you aren't excited about the New Republican Party? eta: didn't the RNC outraise the DNC? "The Republican National Committee has been the only national GOP organization to outraise its Democratic counterpart. " http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5ga2kAdKirsvZaveEETrmKn8VAo7wD8UTS9BO0 |
This is a heated primary battle and all democratic eyes are upon it with emotions running high, so they are giving earlier than they normally would. In short, they are blowing their wad before the show even starts. |
So they are individually outraising two to one. 1) He's not actively campaigning 2) Both D's are bleeding money. Six more weeks until Pennsylvania means radio and TV ads non-stop in Pittsburgh and Philly. 3) How much is in the D's campaign chest? Ohio and Texas weren't cheap. 4) McCain has five months to save money up to the convention...The D's have five months of non-stop campaigning to spend money up to their convention. |

Anyone see the Irony in McCain, one of the authors of McCain-Feingold, not raising many funds. I think people are exercising their free speech rights by not sending Sen. John McCain campaign contributions. This, IMHO, speaks volumes. He is reaping what he has sewn. |

I wonder if the adage 'Any publicity is good publicity' will come true here. The Dems are both front page news everywhere in the US, while McCain had dropped off the map so to speak. I would like to see him in public more so he can define himself and score early points while the Dems are cutting each others throats. Then again, never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. -K |

Won't it be ironic if McCain's own campaign finance reform laws end up screwing him? He threw a fit about all the grassroots efforts Bush had back in 2000. Now McCain needs those same efforts to help him but they no longer exist because he had them banned. McCain had also taken a pledge to accept the federal matching funds but that would put a cap on how much money he could raise for the campaign. He is already rethinking that decision. |
Yea but then why let little things like facts get in the way. |
