On the subject of impressive wood craftsmanship I present the ATLAS-1. This trestle was built to test the effects of electromagnetic pulses on aircraft while minimizing ground reflections to get them as close to an in flight situation as possible.
Attached File In order to avoid interference the structure is built without metal, using wooden along with fiberglass fasteners. Attached File |

Track on the roof of the old Fiat factory, Turin, Italy, 1960s
In 1916, the construction of the Lingotto plant began, headed by Giacomo Matte Trucco. The plant became the largest in Europe. The huge building had 5 floors, and there was a road for testing cars on the roof. The construction of the plant was completed in 1922. Upon commissioning, it became a symbol of the Italian automotive industry. Lingotto became a factory where everything was produced in one place, and now there was no need to transport parts from one place to another. Attached File |

In my case... my first 'puter was a 286, with command-line interface. I begged my friends to let me put Windows 3.1 on it, then returned to the command line.
When I built my first 386, the computer club president handed me a 1 MEGABYTE stick of memory. I almost wept for gratitude. My mom just loved playing blackjack on that old 286! VGA screen and all. Dad and I l went to Field Day one weekend; I left it set up in the living room so she could play. As we walked out the door she called over her shoulder "Bye!" She was hooked. So hooked that when we got home some 30 hours later, she was on that computer, playing blackjack! We accused her of being on it all weekend long! |

The chap from Westmeath told us about something he’d seen in South Africa. Caddying there was less fun than in Ireland but you were definitely better off than the “Jam Boys”, a term that was new to the rest of us.
The Jam Boy accompanies the golfers and caddies and wears a hat covered in jam. This is designed to attract flies and keep them away from the players. Really. Someone stands on a golf course wearing a hat covered in jam with flies buzzing around their head all day. Urban dictionary gives the following definition: “The Jam Boy was first introduced as early as the 1800s when the British Empire occupied India. When the British gentry went to play golf, they would have two men, the caddy and a Jam Boy. “The Jam Boy’s sole purpose was to keep the mosquitoes away from the golfer. To do this, the Jam Boy would cover himself in Jam to attract the mosquitoes away from the players. When the game was over the Jam Boy got to keep the jam he was wearing to take home to his family.” |
