Shocked the first time I saw this.  One of the only times I could see myself going underground if this was still unflooded and actually open for people to go rather than a commercial operation.  The conditions seem horrific but seeing that in person would be worth it.

@wptemple

Could you provide some info on this location? Name of the cavern, location, etc?

@thirstyswimmer

Caves of the crystal in Mexico, its a mine that was pumped out and they found these crystals.   Fragile gypsum crystals iirc.

The cave is now flooded again iirc as it was being pumped out due to active mining.

100% humidity, brutally hot and a long way down make the cave treacherous.  Only researchers were allowed in.

Strange, it's just a YouTube link that didn't do a thing to mine.

I'll remove it.

From Wiki: "...the XP-79B made its first flight on 12 September 1945, however, 15 minutes into the flight control was lost for unknown reasons while performing a slow roll. The nose dropped, and the roll continued with the aircraft impacting the ground in a vertical spin. Test pilot Harry Crosby had attempted to bail out but was struck by the aircraft and died. Shortly thereafter, the project was canceled along with work on the second prototype."
