KJCT link COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) –– Someone has put a lot of thought into a welcome sign that may surprise you, it's in front of a homeless camp off I-25 in Colorado Springs. Its message, "Welcome to Obamaville, Colorado's fastest growing community." Despite repeated calls no one could answer the question, who put up the sign? To some homeless the sign's message says enough. Mark Limonez, a homeless man living in "tent city", says the sign doesn't make him feel good about trying to get back on his feet. "Guys are trying to work but there's not enough work out there, so they go pan handling or flag a sign" Limonez says, "I've never seen so many camps since I've been out in the streets - there's no money." There are no logos on the front of the sign and no clues to where it comes from. |

HOPE & CHANGE MOTHERFUCKERS, YOU WANTED IT, YOU GOT IT!!!!!! HAHAHAHA, I only feel bad for the ones who didn't vote for Obama, I have a feeling those are few and far between in Cali... |

Brilliant! It could not happen to a better guy. That and he is the great savior! I don't understand, what do you mean!
I bet wifi and Starbucks are included (joke). Hooverville, yeah I have been there. It is some place near LA right? They don't know what this means, reference lost on them. |

Hooverville, yeah I have been there. It is some place near LA right? They don't know what this means, reference lost on them. My first thought was "You've got to be kidding me, they named a city after him?" And then I realized, oh wow, this sounds like a hooverville. Then it all clicked. My brain is fried from calculus, I'm a bit "slow" right now. ![]() |

That is very funny considering all Obama has done for the American people cash for clunkers / window tax rebates/wood stove tax rebates/ possible elimination of capital gains tax opposed to the ZERO that Bush did for the US citizen . Off course maybe they named some cities after Bush in Iraq
But hey why interject sense into a political slam |

There's always a number of the tents around that area, it's a pretty busy interchange for I25 and downtown, and it is close to the 8th st. WalMart - lots of pan handling there.
There is a creek and hiking/biking trails that run through the area, and it is actually situated pretty well for access to different parts of downtown. Previously, they have kept themselves pretty well - you had to really look for them to see them. For the past month or so - it's like an entire subdivision has been constructed, on both sides of the interstate. And not just shabby, torn, surplus tents - some of these tents are pretty nice, like 5 person cabin tents. Yeah, it is an eyesore, and yeah, most of them are there because that exit is prime real estate for panhandling. |

Fuck that area of Colorado Springs.
I went down there once - traveling through to another place - and there was a guy sitting on the curb at the stop-light at the bottom of an exit ramp from I-25, staring at the ground, holding out a baseball cap and shaking it. You know what? Fuck you. Beggars in this country need to learn a little lesson from beggars in India. Those guys do all kinds of crazy tricks, jokes, acts, etc. Stuff that's amusing and entertaining. They may be begging, but at least they're working for what they earn. _MaH |

Pretty steep learning curve - but those who lived through it would actually probably make some pretty decent cash. Just a thought |

Of course, all the middle-men involved took a pinch for themselves. You gave em $20, you got back $15. Hope and change! |

Just a thought See, the thing that goes through my head regarding begging is that people have it backwards. "Give me money, then I'll do something." Wonderful ethic that will certainly land you a job with a steady income. No, you work first. THEN you get paid. I think back to when I visited Chicago with a couple of friends from the area back in college. There was a guy in some common area, a lot of people walking through it, and he was wearing a suit that looked like it was made of glitter, with matching top-hat. He was standing on a box, four bowling pins in hand, and had a unicycle leaning up against the box. In front of the box was a stand with a sign that said "$3 to activate". Now, I don't know what the hell this guy was going to do, but it looked like something that could have been potentially interesting. However, I wasn't going to spend $3 to find out. But, if he was doing whatever his trick(s) was/were, and had a sign like "If you enjoy the act, please spare what you can to help", I would have definitely given something. The difference? What he was doing is waiting for someone to come along and help him. What I just proposed is him working however he can to help himself. I wholly agree with Benjamin Franklin. We should make the poor uncomfortable and kick them out of poverty. Want to help a beggar? Tell him to get over himself and whatever issues he has, and find a fucking job so he can help himself monetarily and psychologically. Want to keep him right where he is? Give him $3 to activate. _MaH |

I live only 40 miles North of COS and I can tell all of you; it has been a horribly cold December so far. We have had a couple weeks of permafrost now and many of the nights were around -14 C. Nobody is living in a tent because they want to. I can understand being homeless, but I not in CO. I have already have my spot picked out on the beach in Santa Barbara. CA. |

You know, we have a thread going on in the Team forum right now where people like us are happily sparing what we can to help other people out. People who are unemployed. People who are hard out on luck. People who can barely keep the roof over their heads, or have trouble keeping the heat on. All you've done is run your cunt mouth. You talk about people who should be helped. Well, guess what? The people of this forum who insist on working to improve their own lives are getting help. The people who vote for federal handouts, welfare, food stamps and other "gubmint chedda" are down there in tent city waiting for you to log off and go help them, because you've inspired them to abandon the idea of helping themselves, and instead to rely on you and your ilk to save them. Now get to it. It's in the teens today and they're freezing. _MaH |

They tend to roam all over that particular area of town - always on the corner by the WalMart, and you will see the same group going through Old Colorado City an hour or so later. But these folks don't really want anything but your cash. Try to pay them to do some work - not happening. Give them food from the car window, adn they look at you like you have three heads. I've tried, and have no problem at all with offering honest help to people in a bad stretch for an honest return. These folks simply want handouts - nothing more. |

Very sad for the homeless and jobless.(myself)
But I do not think we can blame it on Obama. The Federal government yes but not solely on Obama. American companies have been shipping jobs over seas for decades and we no longer take pride in buy American. Many companies that are doing just fine ship jobs to pacific rim so what we have is not really caused by a slow down or market adjustment. Decades of lost jobs caused lack of jobs then the slow down. Recovery is not around the corner it is decades down the road but only for short periods. We have peaked, spoiled ourselves rooten and we bite the hand that feeds us. The future will show our down fall. |

I can sort of see where Trolldog is coming from.
Hoover was a Republican Obama is a Communist err Statist umm, I mean Democrat Hoover held a job as a Mining Engineer and did something productive before entering politics Obama taught law and helped criminals vote––-productive? Uh, not in your wildest dreams. But, here is where calling modern tent cites "Obamavilles" are justified. Hoover believed the recession / Depression could be remedied by volunteerism Ditto Obama––-well, he gives lip service to it anyways. Hoover "inherited" a bad economy Ditto Obama––––but Hoover didn't vote for any of the problems that made the economy get into trouble in the first place. Obama did––sort of (voting "present" shows such political leadership!) Lets calla spade a spade shall we?
