I am currently Reserves thinking going active officer. Is OBC just the same as Basic but for officers? Is the OBC you go to dependent on what branch you enter? I was 11B retrained in the reserves as 97B. Would I be chosen for one of these branches, MI or Infantry? Anyone with the inside scoop of how things generally work? Thanks Chupdog |

Good answers, 11A. I commissioned in 2000, so I missed the whole BOLC thing by a year or so. I was a prior service type and did Advanced Camp in '99. I usually try to explain the Advanced Camp thing as a forum for evaluation, where Basic training or ROTC Basic Camp was a forum for learning. As ROTC cadets going to Advanced Camp, we were expected to already be well versed on the basics (although that certainly wasn't always the case). OBC in 2000 was definitely a "gentlemen's course", with off-post housing, POV's, and lots of beer......

I remember opening the door to my room in Ft Knox. After Basic and OCS, I expecting at a minimum four-man-rooms. Imagine my shock and surprise to find I had my own hotel room, with double-bed, TV, microwave, telephone... and my own, personal, for me alone, not for anyone else's use... shower. (Wow) My first thought was that 'The last time I was here (Basic) would have been a lot more pleasant if I were living here instead of up the road' NTM |
