I put in 18,234 meters today, the most I’ve ever done in one day by far.  I’m not sure I’ll be able to walk tomorrow.

Looks like we’re sitting 29/71.

Nice work everyone!

My meters fell off a cliff, but dang, I think this is the strongest showing for the team yet.  Some really impressive performances got put up, and every single team member contributed meters!

Congrats to all.  I hope every single person is encouraged to keep going with their fitness goals.
It's all part of life's rich pageant.

You all rock!
Instead of some rah-rah captain speech, I'll just direct you to what vim posted above. Everyone showed up and put in work this year, and it shows! I intend to stick with it, and there are other team events throughout the year.

I think team challenges are once a quarter or so. Individual ones are pretty frequent.

If you're up for a challenge, my gym did this workout for my 60th birthday:

For time:

10/12 pulls on the rower (men do sets of 10 pulls, women do 12)
1 burpee over the rower (fall on your belly on one side of the rower, then get up and jump over the rower. Repeat)
10/12 pulls on the rower
2 burpees over the rower
...

Continue doing 10/12 pulls, adding 1 burpee each round until you accumulate 60 calories

Finish on the last set of burpees after 60 calories

Rx+: double burpees (2, 4, 6,...)

Coaches Notes:
Just like life, the harder you work the better the result. It also gets harder the longer you go on.

The secret is to set the drag fairly high, reduce the stroke rate, and get 1+ calories per stroke.

I did it in 8:37 with 58 strokes, ending on the set of 6 burpees. Our power lifting coach did it in 5:15 with 48 strokes.
I know I'll never go home.
So set fire to your ships, and past regrets, and be free.

I’m in, but can’t promise too much. I’m in a PFT specific program right now that’s got a lot of running until mid October. I can throw in a few meters a day.

Just cleaned off the C2 and did my first 1k since the end of the VTC back in January, ease into it.

I'll send out a warning email shortly to rally the team. Try to limit the spam but a kickoff email tends to generate traffic to the thread.

I've never been able to figure out the drag settings.

The official literature relates them to boat types. Higher damper setting is more similar to a heavier boat like a dinghy, and lower drag is more like a fast rowing shell.

I've never rowed a boat but I've ridden a bike. Damper setting is like gears on a bike. Set it high and you pull really hard, similar to trying to start off in a high bike gear. Set it low and you have to pull very fast (think handle speed, not stroke rate) to achieve any power. Somewhere in the middle you can find an optimum range for you.

Also find the screen, or use the app, to access the drag factor. That's the real number that is calibrated by the machine. The damper settings are coarse. And the machine resistance will change due to condition, or if the flywheel is dirty. If you're interested in fine tuning drag, use drag factor.
I know I'll never go home.

To expand a little bit, try out the two extremes. Set the damper on the lowest setting and see how many watts you can generate. What you'll find is, you have to move the handle really fast. Again, this is handle speed NOT stroke rate. This is like setting your bike in the lowest gear and riding on level ground. You top out at how fast you can turn the crank, without maximizing speed.

Next set the damper really high. Now the pulls are more like a heavy barbell workout. Lots of force, slower movement. Now you're generating lactic acid really fast and will fatigue quickly. Unless you're like some of the beasts at my gym

Somewhere between those is the optimum setting. Methodically try different settings until you find a range that works for you.

I used to work out with an unusual number of collegiate rowers. They said the typical workout damper setting for them was 4 - 5. I use a low setting for warmups. I use a medium setting (drag factor about 120) for distance workouts. I turn it up to 140-ish for calorie workouts, like my birtday wod posted above

This seems like a thing where rowing is the least invasive resolution. What are you gonna do, lay on the couch all January?

I'm in for Jan 2026. Got some account warnings so I am not planning to post elsewhere. But I am stoked to see you guys and gals on the sticks.

I'm doing "The Stretch" goal for the January Revolutions challenge, which should be a kick in the ass to throw even 500m if it's going to be a non-workout day for whatever reason. I think I've enrolled in it every year and failed for one reason or another. Amazing how life gets in the way.
