My unpopular opinion is that truex should retire after this year, especially if he wins the championship.
Don't drag it out and make it awkward for another year or two as your performance goes down. You're already thinking about it. Take your 3 or 4 wins this year plus whatever else you can rack up, get on that boat you're talking about, and go out on top. Remember your last season fondly instead of looking back and wishing you let it go sooner. |

Don't do your farewell tour, then do one more year, then come back and drive 1/3 of a season after that. Retire and walk away. |

There are several F1 drivers who retired as reigning champion but I can't think of a single US pro series champ who did not defend. Truex's situation is complicated with his recent split from Sherry Pollex. Sherry's cancer situation is not encouraging. If I were Martin, that would weigh heavily on me and I would want to stay distracted. |
