You're making a huge assumption that the vehicle was secured by a loadmaster and not simply relying on the parking brake.

Interesting.
Runway is 8000’ long.  Not great, but not terrible.  Unfortunately he wasted half of it.         You can tell they are too fast, and the pilot has no appreciation for energy management, short field technique, large aircraft inertia, etc.     Maybe Wagner is having a hard time recruiting pilots these days?

-  I just realized, He might have flown a fast/steep “tactical approach” out of fear of Western AA manpads.

Either way, that was some really bad flying.  Ref+ 20 to 80 kts    You just can’t do that in big airplanes.

Not really. The pilot was really considerate of the ground crews, and put the mess well out of the traffic lanes. Airport cleanup crew can take there time, airport operations will be unaffected.

Hey, team red!

I just finished up installing and pasting a Ryzen 5800X in one of my systems I'm rebuilding at the moment. It had a 5600X in it, but since I had a 5800X lying around unused, I decided to upgrade while I had everything taken apart. Fingers are currently smeared with Kryonaut as I type.

Exactly. Neatly departed the runway and apron to go burn quietly up in a field and not obstruct operations.

Very genteel.

Good!  The world needs competition in key industries. It is phenomenal what leading wafer/chip manufacturers are doing. 😁

Eastern Europe could use some chip capability. The UK has ARM and Israel has at least some design capability.  I am not aware of any EE country having chip manufacturing.

Yeah, good point that doesn’t get brought up in the media. Russia claims they have taken 700k kids. May be exaggerated but emphasizes their complete immorality.

Some Republicans seem to forget Russia is safe by Western self-imposed red lines. The Russian people are hardly noticing the war as it is all happening in Ukraine. As are all the atrocities.

To me, it looked like nothing more than bad pilot technique.    The flat pitch attitude as he was trying to “fly it onto the runway” for half the runway, is proof of excess airspeed.    Big planes have to be flown by the numbers.  Inertia is your enemy.   Of course, any number of mechanical issues could have contributed.

Any pilot can screw up, but that looked to me, like someone with very little experience in big planes, trying to do some OJT.     Obviously, he should have gone around.

Article from the end of last year, so it's a little dated

Russia assembles ‘shadow fleet’ of tankers to help blunt oil sanctions

Russia has quietly amassed a fleet of more than 100 ageing tankers to help circumvent western restrictions on Russian oil sales following its invasion of Ukraine, according to shipping brokers and analysts.

Shipping broker Braemar estimates Moscow, which relies heavily on foreign tankers to transport its crude, has added more than 100 ships this year, through direct or indirect purchases. Energy consultancy Rystad says Russia has added 103 tankers in 2022 through purchases and the reallocation of ships servicing Iran and Venezuela, two countries under western oil embargoes.

The Kremlin’s push to assemble what the oil shipping industry calls Russia’s “shadow fleet” is an attempt to overcome new international curbs on the country’s oil. These include an EU ban on seaborne imports, which comes into force on Monday, and a new global price cap of $60 per barrel, which the bloc backed on Friday and is part of a broader G7 initiative.

Traders say the shadow fleet will reduce the impact of such measures, but will fall short of eliminating it.

.....

Instead it aims to use its new fleet to try to supply countries such as India, China and Turkey that have become bigger buyers of its oil as Europe has cut back.

The largely anonymous tanker purchases can be tracked by the big increase in unnamed or new buyers appearing in registries. The vessels are generally 12-15 years old and would be expected to be scrapped in the next few years, said Anoop Singh, head of tanker research at Braemar.

“These are buyers that we, as longstanding brokers, are not familiar with,” Singh said. “We are confident that the majority of these vessels are destined for Russia.”
.....

Andrei Kostin, head of Russia’s state-owned bank VTB, appeared to confirm the push in October by saying the country needed to spend “at least Rs1tn ($16.2bn)” for “the tanker fleet’s expansion”. Russian deputy prime minister Alexander Novak in March said the country would build up its “supply chains” in oil. The Kremlin did not respond to a request to comment on the tanker purchases on Friday.

“The number of vessels Russia will need to move all its oil is just eye-watering,” said Craig Kennedy, a Russian oil expert at Harvard’s Davis Center who has been tracking the build-up of Russian vessels. “We’ve seen quite a number of sales to unnamed buyers in recent months, and a few weeks after the sale many of these tankers pop up in Russia to take their first load of crude.”

.....

Braemar expects the Russian shortfall to be between 700,000 and 1.5mn barrels a day. Rystad estimates Russia will be short of 60 to 70 tankers, and expects seaborne exports to fall about 200,000 b/d.

Total Russian volumes lost to the market may eventually reach 600,000 b/d if Moscow retaliates by cutting oil supplies running through pipelines to Europe — which are not subject to sanctions — before it has enough tankers to reroute them, Rystad said.

Russia needs more than 240 tankers to keep its current exports flowing,” said Viktor Kurilov, analyst at Rystad.

Kennedy at the Harvard Davis Centre added: “You can come up with all sorts of clever schemes but there’s just so much oil to move — they’re always going to struggle to operate at the scale necessary to keep Russian exports whole, absent price cap sales.”

From February-

Greece Is Making a Killing Selling Ships to Russia

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Greece’s mighty shipping sector has continued to earn good money shipping Russian oil. But Greek shipowners have discovered an apparently even more lucrative source of revenue: selling the ships themselves to mysterious buyers linked to Russia. One publication has declared that a “Great Greek Tanker Sale” is taking place, and no price seems too high for a secondhand tanker. But the formerly Greek ships are entering a Hades-like shadow economy.

Greek companies don’t rule many sectors of the globalized economy, but they certainly dominate shipping. Last year, the country was once again the world’s largest shipowner by deadweight tonnage. Then Russia invaded Ukraine, and Western governments ramped up their sanctions. Greek shipowners didn’t like it. “Sanctions have never worked,” Greek shipping magnate George Prokopiou told a maritime event crowd last June.

.....

According to the Institute of International Finance’s chief economist, Robin Brooks, Greek ships currently account for almost 50 percent of tanker capacity out of Russian ports, up from 33 percent before the invasion. Companies based in countries that have imposed price caps on Russian oil are allowed to ship oil if it is priced below the cap. In Russia’s crucial Baltic Sea and Black Sea ports, seven Greek companies have collectively shipped 50 percent more Russian oil than Russia’s state-owned Sovcomflot, the Wall Street Journal reported.

But now many Greek shipowners have decided that they can profit even more by selling the ships. Sales began soaring in February 2022, and there’s “demand for tankers, for older tankers across the world, particularly in jurisdictions unencumbered by sanctions against Russia,” the trade publication TradeWinds explained. In the 12 months since then, Greek owners have sold some 125 crude and vessel carriers to the tune of $4 billion. In June, Hellenic Shipping News reported that Greek companies had sold 97 tankers sold so far this year, 25 percent of the world total.

That puts Greece in the top spot, followed by China in second position. According to figures exclusively provided to me by the consultancy VesselsValue, which tracks ship sales, Greek companies have sold 290 ships since the beginning of the war. Chinese firms are second, with 221 vessels. Russian companies have sold 57 ships, but mostly to other Russian firms or unknown buyers.

In 2022, the number of Suezmax tankers changing owners doubled compared to 2021, reaching 103, while Aframax sales rose by 30 percent, to 121. (Suezmax and Aframax tankers are the third- and fourth-largest types of crude oil carriers, respectively.) These ship types are “the ship size of choice for moving Russian cargoes,” a shipping executive told S&P Global Commodities Insight, because “not all ports in Russia can berth bigger ships.”

Post-invasion sales include the Aframax tanker Seatrust, which the Greek firm Thenamaris sold for a reported $35 million—more than three times what Thenamaris had paid for it eight years earlier. Another Greek firm has sold its four oldest crude carriers for a total of $140 million, causing a shipping executive to observe to an industry publication that “there has never been a tanker market like this.”

Despite the good news for the sellers, the generous buyers’ identities have mostly not been announced. The buyers now rushing to pay a premium for secondhand tankers are, in fact, decidedly mysterious. Companies based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have bought the most Greek tankers, followed by buyers in China, Turkey, and India. S&P Global Market Intelligence reports that 2022 saw the creation of an astounding 864 maritime companies with an association or link to Russia. My research assistant, Katherine Camberg, has traced more than two dozen formerly Greek-owned vessels to new owners often so obscure that they even lack a mailing address.

Despite not being known as a global seafaring hub, the UAE’s starring role in the tanker purchases is not surprising. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Dubai has established itself as “the new Geneva”—in other words, the capital for companies trading Russian oil. China has stepped up its Russian oil imports since the invasion, and Hong Kong has joined the UAE as a new oil-trading hub. Turkey, too, has increased its imports of Russian oil, and one of the Greek tankers’ known buyers is Turkey’s BEKS Ship Management & Trading. Its recently acquired ex-Greek tankers have in recent weeks been seen on the site MarineTraffic.com traveling to and from ports including Russia’s Vysotsk, Kavkaz, and Novorossiysk; Algeria’s Arzew; and Turkey’s Tuzla.

India has also massively increased its Russian oil imports, and the country is home to Gatik Ship Management, one of the suddenly active companies now doing massive business linked to Russian oil. Last year, the company went on a used-vessel buying spree, acquiring five Suezmaxes and 16 Aframaxes, as well as several smaller tankers for refined fuel and one VLCC (very large crude carrier, one size up from the Suezmax). In total, Gatik has acquired 60 ships since the beginning of the war, including a Suezmax for $42 million, an Aframax for $39.5 million, and $30 million each for at least 19 other ships, VesselsValue’s figures show. But since late spring, Gatik has transferred its tankers to “a web of related companies,” the Indian Express reported last month—“an attempt by Gatik’s benefactors to make tracking of the entire operation difficult and keeping the activity opaque.” Camberg traced some of the vessels to new owners whose only footprint is a name, if that.

An example. Was in Rostov on the morning of the 25th.

The whole SANAR series is interesting, because they're a collection of dissimilar ships built from 2000, 2004, 2005, 2010, 2012, and 2015, in no discernible order.

Ukraine aid still intact.
The Republicans make a big show of protesting Continuing Resolution for kicking the budget can down the road a month at a time. But ever since they caved to Clinton in 1998 I have not seen them actually hold out for anything substantial.

Nobody gets into office, or stays in office, trying to control spending. Proven fact. The budget will pass and it will have everything the Democrats want PLUS a few more things the Republican leaders want.

McCarthy will get some earmarks and everyone will be happy.

Quite frankly most of those should really be 500+ mile range missiles with a few different warhead choices.
