Probably captured because the optic cable will become a liability. Think letting out a quarter mile of fishing line and not having it catch on something.

As a result of two ATGM missiles hitting a Ukrainian M2A2 ODS-SA "Bradley" infantry fighting vehicle in the Avdiivka direction

One of the missiles hit the onboard ARAT dynamic protection units, which completely contained the attack. The other only caught the blocks on the machine's turret.

The infantry fighting vehicle remained on the move, none of the crew members were injured

Bradley repost.

Am I the only one who thinks something isn't right about these pictures respectively the description?

I don’t see anything inconsistent.

And I don't see any residues from explosions we saw on other tanks.

ARAT works a little different than Kontakt.

This is an M1 that was hit.

Compare with the Bradley.

Looks like they might be killing Russians with fpv drones near the M1 mine clearing vehicle in one scene.

It's not about the ARAT, it's about the dirty ATGM warheads.

I saw pictures of ATGMs tested on ARAT, non of them looked like the Bradley.

I sent the pictures to a BDA expert, waiting for an answer.

Removing him from all military involvement seems odd. It's a great position for him to continue engaging with the allies and pushing for aid, but it just seems like some of that valuable intellectual capital will be lost to AFU in this role.

I hope he will have good personal security.

It will also stand him well to succeed Zelensky in the future. Per that video posted a few pages back with that conference panel discussion including the former ambassador, Ukraine will have to be heavily militarized if they don't have NATO membership right away, and he'd be the right person in that situation.

The Kotov was moving through or past an anchorage of ships waiting to pass through the Kerch strait.  The ships were all at anchor.  The Kotov also had a small bow wave, and you can then see the drones pass by going about the same speed and with wakes behind them.
Pretty awesome to have front-row seats, but also a hairy deal for the cargo crewmen.  I bet once the Russians really got desperate and cut loose there were ricochets landing in all directions for a kilometer or two.
It won’t surprise me if info comes out in the long term that some crewmen were hit by Russian gunfire and/or some ships suffered damage.

Maybe there’s also the reaction of someone who sincerely believed in peaceful coexistence and a reasonable solution being shown it was all horse shit lies from the Russians the whole time.
The Italian populace seems to have had this realization.  Strong historical ties over communist sympathies and a majority with a positive outlook on Russia, electing a right-wing govt probably sponsored by Russia to a diametric swing the opposite way when they figured out they’d been had.
It can happen, but maybe not with some in GD.

True. But, a drone that dodges in and out of trees at slow speed is a different animal. Seems like this kind of system would be far better suited to ISR than FPV.

The Russians have started using killer (and I assume reconnaissance) drones with fiber optic cables attached to them:

Real War | Ukraine -- «For greater efficiency, Russia launches FPV drones with a coil of thin fiber optic cable attached to them.

Our military (AFU) captured one of these drones with 10 kilometers of cable unrolled in the air. Such a drone is not vulnerable to EW and the picture from it can be transmitted in the highest quality.

This sample is being studied by Magyar's team and probably we too will be able to equip our drones in the same way as the enemy.»

Drag is the reason. If the spool is on the ground, the entire length must be drug thru the vegetation along the ground. If the spool is on the aircraft, then the amount reeled off is static and not drug along the ground. Only the pressure of the drag is unspooling the plastic "FO line" which is getting slightly lighter all the time it is moving forward.

Just a guess though. I could be completely and totally full of shit.

T55s and T62s are also now being seen and lost in appreciable numbers.

I wonder if it’s also critical components that are running short on a fleetwide basis.  I.E. they aren’t short of BMPs, but they are short of engines/transmissions/widget #5s.  Imagine how much noncombat loss/damage/wear and tear must be happening that we will never see.  A lot of their depot hulks are probably being stripped just for parts.

That’s certainly an example.  A LOT of SPGs and an even greater percentage of towed guns are disappearing from storage.  They’re probably not reactivating entire SPGs, they’re stripping barrels out to keep running SPGs firing.  But the remaining vehicle is just a parts hulk at that point.
Harder to say about the towed arty.  Maybe they’re sending it as-is and maybe they’re trying to frankenstein something at scale, like build a Wespe out of MTLBs and D-1 howitzers.  Also wouldn’t shock me if they’re trying to frankenstein critical parts, like engines from one vehicle into another.

Propably both, but with the numbers they are losing, they have to reactivate entire SPGs. We have already seen hundreds of SPG blowups in this thread.

We laughed at the Russians that were saying they hadn't sent their best at the beginning of the war, but honestly there was at least some tiny sliver of truth to it.  Russian allocation of equipment is bizzare.

Sorry to just jump in, but wanted to say hi to everyone. Things have been great. Had a few tense nights with Shaheds flying around, but the AA gunners were putting in some late night hours. God bless those guys keeping the cities safe.

Have to go out sometime in the near future. It's nice to get "out the office" so to speak. My girl also "reminded" me tomorrow is Women's day. I love her for not letting me forget. Of course I'll send her some money to go shopping, and take her daughter out to eat. Back to work... Spent some time tonight packing my bag as needed and adjusting the kit.

I added an admin pouch in front of the ballistic dick protector. Looks like my Glock will fit in there nicely. I have a holster coming in the mail, so I'll add it to the battle belt soon enough. We also got some really nice med kits from St. Javelin, with some CAT TQs. I added a TQ to the battle belt, and the new med kit got thrown in my bag. So now I have two med kits, and five TQs.

Still loving the CZ Bren 2. Reached out to CZ for some spare parts and they shipped some our way free of charge. It can be a challenge getting parts for a lot of the foreign equipment/weapons in country now, but it's working out. As you can see the snow is mostly gone, so changed my helmet scrim and pack scrim back to browns/greens.

Work has been good. I am loving the new team and my position. I have a few guys under me, and our team leader is a great guy to work with. I am glad I am getting my work done, and the chance to prove myself in the team. It feels good when the TL sees what I can do, and asks me if I can go out and do "X,Y,Z" on a mission.

Keep up the good work keeping this thread alive. I'm happy to have been around and supported by you guys from the beginning. Looking forward to the victory party. Слава Україні 🇺🇦

I think they are reactivating entire SPGs and towed guns to make good the losses suffered in addition to stripping some for parts.

Now, remember artillery is way behind the lines normally so not everyone will be documented BUT Oryx shows 350 towed guns and 688 self propelled guns having been lost/damaged.

That does not take into effect those that are breaking due to firing rates without maintenance and also firing Best Korea ammunition with amazing QC.

Just over 1000 guns lost is a sizeable number.

True. But, if you just started reeling the fiber back on the reel as you walked, eventually you'd probably get close to the launch point just following that. Unless they're really stupid (ie Russians), when they lost the video feed, they should have cut the fiber and beat feet. If they didn't, then they deserve to get found and FPVd.

In Germany, searches were conducted and assets worth 1 million euros were confiscated from representatives of an organization that supplied more than 400 luxury cars to the Russian Federation. All customs documents were issued “for Belarus”, but in fact the cars were sold in the Russian Federation.

According to the Cheka-OGPU, the arrested Germans transported cars for the former vice-president of Transneft, Mikhail Margelov, as well as for his high-ranking friends. He recently ordered a new Maybach in a top-end configuration.

We are also informed about a huge case that Europol is conducting jointly with law enforcement agencies of Germany, Poland and Lithuania - they plan to arrest in one day dozens of representatives of dealership centers, customs brokers and car carriers who sold cars “to Belarus, Kazakhstan, etc.”, knowing full well where cars actually go.

"The embassy is monitoring reports that extremists are planning to attack large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts.... Citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings for the next 48 hours." On the websites of the US and British embassies in the Russian Federation appeared
warnings about the threat of terrorism in Russia.

Or if they're not stupid, put out mines before you launch w/ trenches and cover and ambush anyone that follows the fiber back.

T90M tanks started showing up in May of 2022 in the east and the first one was destroyed on May 12th near Kharkiv by a CG. That was really the only other Russian tank that hadn't been seen yet (other than the 55/62s which came later).

We saw T80BVM tanks on day one and even some that got clapped by an NLAW leading to a catastrophic detonation.

Also: BMD4, BMD3, KA52s, KA50s, VDV, etc.

There's some sliver of truth to it but facts in other areas outweigh it.

Oh I agree. It's a great idea in theory, but not so good in practice.

My question would be, what are American citizens doing in Moscow?
Link Posted: 3/7/2024 7:15:40 PM EDT
[Last Edit: 4xGM300m] [#49]

The Russian Federation has developed a device for remote coupling during the evacuation of equipment - in theory, there is no need to climb out of the ARV under fire and attach towing cables.
It consists of a frame in the form of two rods, at the end of which are installed guides for the installation of lugs, the frame mount contains a telescopic rod, with mounting on the bulldozer with the help of an eye.
It works like this - when making a hitch, the crew does not leave the armored space. The mechanic-driver, observing through the observation device, maneuvers the machine and the bulldozer coulter and hooks the lash on the towing hooks of the evacuated machine. One then the other hooks the tow bar to the towing hook of the towed vehicle.
In general it is difficult to say how it will show itself - it depends on the driver's qualification. However it will not turn out to be very much longer than getting out and hooking by hand (and it will turn out to be so)
