They are very Ukrainian but you never know what the Kremlin could stir up. Kremlin backed Yanukovich (Paul Manafort was his campaign "manager") was in the Party of Regions which was founded on focusing on the unique qualities of groups from each oblast or region for the purpose of breaking Ukraine up in Putin's Plan A. Transnistria is a made up land that Ukraine should have wiped out long ago. Any conflict here and Moldova will have to get involved and then there is a chance that Romania could get dragged in. There are currently no Russian troops in Meldova itself.
If there isn’t a no-fly zone in Moldova by the end of today then NATO doesn’t exist. They can get ahead of a Russian invasion by declaring it first if Moldova wants it. |
|
|
Moldova should attack Transnistria first.
Might as well. Have Ukraine support the attack. |

This entire conflict has the West only reactive, instead of proactive. Everything is a counter move. I want to see something that forces Russia to make a reaction or show their hand. A lot about the real intentions of Putin along with his willingness to escalate can be figured out with a few moves by the West - mostly by our behavior forcing him to counter or not in Belarus or Moldova.
I am pretty convinced at this point that all the think tank people I used to know are even dumber than I thought, and I didn't think very much of them at the time. Fancy degrees from ivy league schools and unable to do anything but follow old doctrine and react and follow a pre-existing playbook. Anyone pulling an audible renders them useless. These are the people dictating our foreign policy and jumping back and forth between government and private. Only able to follow what they have been taught, not able to think on the fly. Our only saving grace is that this is very similar to how Chinese operate - very little creatively and nobody willing to throw out something outside the existing playbook. |
