Ersatz Italian cooking.

I like their soups. Sometimes a small side of pasta and glass of wine to go with it.

Friendly atmosphere and the prices tend to keep the teenie boppers and riff raff out, at least in my area.

Do love the Olive Garden and I don't care who knows it.

Decent food, but way overpriced.

I have no idea why so many people flock there.

This.  They are good in the absence of a real Italian restaurant.  I've seen individual ones that aren't too bad at all.  However, they suffer the same fate as most "ethnic" chain restaurants.

Olive Garden is fine by me. Soup ,salad , bread sticks all for under ten bucks. Cant beat it.

There's been one 60 miles from me for the 20 yrs I've lived here.

I've never been to it.

Probably not giving them a fair shake, but ate there one time.  I could have eaten the sole off my shoe and it would have tasted better and been more tender than the Tuscany steak I got there.

It isn't likely that a large chain restaurant will have truly authentic [Italian, Mexican, Chinese, etc.] food. I think people get caught up on the un-authenticity of restaurants instead of how the food tastes in general.

I really like Olive Garden, but I don't go there when I'm craving traditional Italian food.

Just my 2 cents

ETA: Chicken Alfredo Pizza! Mmmmm!

They have good food for the most part, but they're kind of expensive.

It's all garbage besides the salad and breadsticks.

Went yesterday. I got a nice big Blue Moon on tap, a bowl of pasta, some breadsticks and salad. My Lady, her Sister and I always have a nice time there.

It's far from genuine Italian but out of all the chain type restaurants they are the best other than a few steak places IMO. Their beef is awful but the sauces and pasta dishes are pretty good. Bread sticks ftw!

Well, the same one is 1.5 miles from my house and I've only been there once.

You aren't missing much.

Just out of curiosity which store? We get a lot of WV'ers in the Christiansburg Va store. Ya'll will drive an hour+ to eat there.

It's SYSCO that's killing the taste of everything!!!
Olive Garden is trash though, seriously.

If you like that shit, then you don't know the first thing about good, real Italian food.

Huntington. We're not that hickish

A tired old chain, that needs a major overhaul...

Bah... microwaved frozen entree crap.

Food tasted like shit, the bread was the only thing that was good and they stopped bringing that once my food was out.

So at first, it was like, cool, unlimited soup & salad yay.

Then it was like, WHAT THE FUCK AN HOUR WAIT FOR SHITTY PASTA?

No thanks.

I like Olive Garden food, and I greatly admire their operation.  They are by far one of the best, if not the best, restaurant chains in America.

Most people have figured out that they can go to any Olive Garden anywhere and have pretty much the same experience for the same price.  For people who travel often, that's a huge selling point.

ETA:  My only criticism is that it's almost always crowded.

Given a choice there's an awesome traditional Italian place that's just over the border to the north that makes a Dente di elefante that I love.

That said, they're also a higher cla$$ joint.
10/10/2010 8:44:25 PM EDT
[#43]
Around here, it's where people who don't know what good, authentic, home made, fresh, Italian food go to eat so that they can feel cultured and fancy. Fuck that place. It's a big shitball restaurant.

eta. In my area especially, there is absolutely NO reason to eat at an Olive Garden, ever. There are too many good places to eat around here instead.

10/10/2010 8:45:07 PM EDT
[#44]
I'm neutral on it. Only been there once. Food was decent enough that I'd consider going back.
10/10/2010 8:46:13 PM EDT
[#45]
So-so.  It's a chain restaurant, so it can only be so good.  But it's a safe bet if you're in a new town and don't know where to find the good places.

Olive Garden is about as authentic as Outback Steakhouse or Pizza Hut.

Indifferent, I have been there twice, over 10 years ago. I never consider eating there.

Americanized franchise version of an Italian frozen entree.

It totally depends on what you get at olive garden. They have really good Fettuccine Alfredo and Cheese Ravioli. I would not eat the Lasagna, spagetti, etc. Breadsticks are usually good. The Pasta e Fagioli soup is good. My wife likes the Zuppa Toscana. Their salad is the bomb when you are craving salad.

Olive Garden is Italian for people who have never been to a Little Italy or Italy for that matter.

It's better than Spagettio's but it is not even close to being authentic.
