Just an observation...
Many folks here have military / LE / Emergency Mgmt / HAZMAT / Other 1st responder experience. Many of us are aware of things that the average citizen is not. I have seen things posted in the many threads regarding the Aurora shooting that are not being stated in the media...they are purely supposition based on our own educated opinions. If someone fishing for ideas was monitoring this site, I think they would learn some things that aren't common knowledge. If you are 'in the know' I would ask that you be careful with what professional, inside knowledge you share. There will be enough new visitors hitting this site in the coming days...count on that...let's not be our own worst enemy. I'm sorry if this sounds preachy...I'm not trying to come off like the agency legal advocate....just don't want to ever see the posts at this site tied to some tragedy. We already have an uphill battle trying to maintain our rights...we sure don't need any bad press, especially during an emotionally charged news cycle. Thanks for hearing me out. |

Yeah. Lets restrict the free dissemination of information, including potentially useful and lifesaving information, because a tiny number of shitbags might misuse it.
Learning things that "aren't common knowledge," including things related to responding to armed criminals, is pretty much the main reason people come to forums like this one. |

I wonder if the OP would be okay with restricting guns to police/mil/first-responders, you know, because of the rare mis-use of them by nutjobs like the one in Colorado? Not putting words in his mouth, mind you. Just following the flow of his thesis. |

I didn't offer a thesis...I offered a reminder to professionals relative to the responsible use and treatment of information. I'd expect a ten year veteran of this site to understand the difference, and perhaps the point in my post. Regarding you wondering about my position on the 2nd amendment, I think me record is pretty clear at this site. |

i'm thinking this thread won't go as planned but please don't tell OP i said that, he might start another thread No...it didn't...but I can't say I'm surprised really. I'd like to think that the big picture is more important to folks, but apparently I'm ignorant in these matter. |

I actally kind of agree with OP. Not that Aimless should come in and police things up every time someone posts some shady shit. Just a courteous reminder that we should all watch what we say and how we say it. |

Quoted: you are missing the big pictureI'd like to think that the big picture is more important to folks, but apparently I'm ignorant in these matter. If you allow the "3rd party" to solely relay information to you, then you will be mislead throughout your life. The little tidbits that "might" be important should only be known by a select few so they can do nothing with it? amiright ![]() I don't think there ever was a tragedy in our entire history that was based on too much information. |

Now, are you talking about CLASSIFIED information? Because there are pretty clear rules about that. But simply procedures, tools, etc, ... that does not fall into the classified arena? Pfft. Aside from specific comm freqs and the like, if it can be entrusted to the high school graduate on the local constabulary, its probably not that big a deal. But, you made your point, and so far you're taking the ribbing like a man, so good luck with this. |
| This site has a fairly significant concentration of people with security clearances. We have dozens of federal leo agents, members of special operations units and employees of intelligence agencies and defense contractors. I honestly don't think I've ever seen any OPSEC violations. |

I think the OP is right on it. If you notice, over 200K hits on the main Aurora thread in what- 36 hours or so? The main Fast and Furious thread (tacked) had around 100K hits in the days since Holder was found in contempt.
I'll go with this too. I understand ya OP... Just a little common sense. |

I think this is the thread OP is talking about.

The internet exists...information flows. You can't stop it or control it. A friend of mine got this job with a .mil contractor. Said they were working on a new special project for the Navy. I ventured the guess on what it was...spot on. I ventured the guess on the problem they were having...spot on. Not because I track and hunt down information like that...but because people talk. You can't control it. |

I held a TS clearance in the Army, mostly due to the fact that I worked on secure telephone and data networks. The nature of my work put me into situations where I would be exposed to sensitive information. Of course there was a lot of technical information about the equipment, and encryption methods we used, but for that stuff it was easy to determine who was fishing for information. If you needed to know classified technical information about the equipment or encryption methods I worked with, you would have been given that information in school, if you were asking about it, you weren't authorized to know about it.
The other stuff was what took more brains to keep a lid on. I never had a problem knowing that I shouldn't repeat anything I had heard that wasn't aimed at me. Not everybody I worked with was not as smart, and didn't understand that because you overheard the Corp Commander discussing troop movements, that you shouldn't repeat it to every swinging dick you ran into. |

If anyone is doing damage, it's this stupid condescending "better than you disguised" post of yours. |
