It makes me feel the same way I feel watching Live PD.

Just how many rungs there are below me in the social hierarchy.

I'm kind of shocked at how little press coverage there has been of Inspiration4.  This is the first legitimate space tourism event and almost nobody noticed outside of enthusiasts. I feel like it should have been top story in a huge font on all outlets.

It makes me long for the space-obsessed 1960s.

It’s because Elon is red pilled in the eyes of the media and it was boring to the media because it is routine, safe and nobody died.

I think Netflix has a deal on the media coverage as they have some sort of exclusive rites on the story from start to finish.

Want the whole story ?

Pay Netflix.

Falcon 9.  Already way cheaper then any other launcher.

This flight is like the historic ground breaking flights of the first Airplanes.  And I suspect the prices for this flight when adjusted for inflation are not all that much more those flights.
(finding a similar flight to compare it to isn't research I'm willing waste time doing)

And the cheaper replacement for the Dragon 2 capsule launched on the Falcon 9 is soon to be realized and render it obsolete.  Starship could reduce the price by an order of magnitude...  But even if it doesn't.  It is certain that it will be a lot cheaper.  It will make it cheap enough for many of the business ventures we all want to occur to actually be profitable.  Private space stations doing various types of research, manufacturing, refining, and resorts are some such business ventures but the biggest one we need to get going is asteroid mining.

Just like how travel between the Americas and Europe quickly developed when there was money to be made going back and forth so too will space travel.

Space tourists have purchased seats on government rockets before... but this is the first completely privately funded crewed flight.  If it happens once it will happen again... and again.  Cheaper ways to get to space will come on line soon.

There's literally astronomical amounts of valuable resources just floating around out there.  There's money to be made getting them.  Money to be made refining them.  Money to be made assembling these materials into spacecraft, space stations, planetary/moon bases.  Money to be made transporting goods and people between all the places the above are occurring.

There was a rather large contingent of SpaceX VIP's at the Port today on JTRI getting pics and interviews.
The I4 passengers were there also.

Not sure if Musk was there or not.

They even washed the lower part of the booster for the photo shoot, I think that's a first !

USSF-44 is a classified mission for the United States Space Force. There will be 2 payloads on board this mission, a larger, unconfirmed satellite and a micro-satellite named TETRA-1. TETRA-1 is the first in a series of prototype GEO satellites being launched by the US Military which will test systems procedures for future satellites.

It’s a “dog bites man story”. No zip, no blood. If it bleeds, it leads.

AND… It’s private enterprise showing up Government efforts.

And, the poster above is correct—Musk isn’t woke so he doesn’t get front page. Lebron picking his nose gets their attention.

TC

P.S.—I’m planning on going to see a launch at the end of the month. First time actually being there. (Saw a shuttle launch one night from over the gulf at 37,000’. Still spectacular.)

NASA likely to move some astronauts off Starliner due to extended delays

NASA will not make an official announcement for weeks or months, but two sources say the space agency is moving several astronauts from Boeing's Starliner spacecraft onto SpaceX's Crew Dragon vehicle for upcoming missions to the International Space Station.

The assignments are not finalthey have yet to go through the formal approval process of the Multilateral Crew Operations Panel, which includes all international partnersbut sources say NASA's rookie astronauts who have not yet flown to space will move off the Boeing vehicle due to its ongoing delays.

Looks like fantasy art, neat design but I can't wait for Starship's counterpart. Probably either look like something out of Buck Rogers or the era of Zeppelins.

Possibly both?

They probably do. They did some level of experiments up there, and whatever they did probably counts. They've still got to apply, though, and they might not view it as necessary.

Agreed; no way on New Shepard. The relatively longer flight time on Virgin Galactic* would potentially give someone a chance, but I suspect that none of these suborbital flights will get people wings.

*-The VG Pilots probably would qualify, but I believe the only ones who have flown got their wings under the 'old' criteria.
