It's been a long list of successful GPS space vehicle launches. The last launch failure was last century, in 1997, when the first IIR SV had an unplanned catastrophic disassembly mere seconds into launch. That was SVN 42. Today's launch was SVN 77.

I had forgotten about the launch and we were sitting outside when the launch broadcast broke in over the radio. With the time delay it gave me enough to head out front and watch , night launches are spectacular ! That payload must have been at the upper limits of the Falcon 9 because it sure seemed to take its time gaining altitude. Regardless, we got lit up on the Space coast ! |

On their first GPS launch the USAF made them expend the core to 100% ensure they had margins for a successful orbit insertion. |

Space is building a floating super heavy class spaceport. Would be a good insurance policy if Biden goes serious to shut everything down. Elon probably doesn't trust anyone and is trying to save himself.

He and his wife have a one year old baby and just bought a house 5 months ago. If Biden takes office.....damn straight he is going to do the same thing Obama did. I watched all of it unfold out there back in the USA days. He is foolish for thinking nothing will happen. There is always political risk. Back in 2004 we were spared from getting a John Kerry administration. I don't think even the liberals out there supported him after he tried canceling ISS while he was in congress. ISS was the only thing that was keeping shuttle flying then. FBO campaigned in tville and told the liberals what what they wanted to hear. Their technical skills are important, there will be jobs and bla bla bla... Boy did they get played. I was on center day FBO flew in on AF1 and landed at KSC. His motorcade drove the perimeter line around KSC to the beach and went to the Spacex pad for a tour with Elon. After FBO left Spacex he went to the operations and checkout building to give a speech. O&C - at the time was being changed up for Orion processing, some of us had been transferred to that program and were working in the HiBay there. Everyone that worked in the building was sent elsewhere for the day, which is normal during a visit like that. What was funny about it was everyone there was wearing lab coats like they just put down their beakers and stepped out of the lab to attend the event. The only ones in attendance that weren't bussed in were the program directors and higher level. It was all a show. A few months later Constellation Program was canceled. Opinions and discussion on that program or SLS or any other program isn't what I'm trying to drum up here. I'm just saying no one should think that there aren't going to be consequences for this. If Artemis program gets dumped Spacex will be affected also. If ISS gets shut down Spacex will be affected also. Not crippling effects, Elons internet satellites look like they may be able to pay for anything he wants to do, but having customers with goals and willing to pay for it are huge. I don't know what kind of customer would be interested in the Moon and or Mars during a political climate being gobbled up with the covid and green new deals Back in the shuttle days we had a saying - what is your plan B. Edit for some spelling |

Love how SpaceX just has used boosters stacked in a hangar next to the next rocket to take people into space.

They not only interview Musk in present-day (2016), but how an eccentric multi-billionaire (in 2033) invests nearly all of his portfolio into putting man on the surface of mars (regardless of national/international help). |

I'd go, but there are MANY more smarter, fit, younger EE/CSEs that would be on the list in front of me. |

The USAF made them expend the core, but the GPS launches are well within the performance of drone landing. The GPS sats weigh ~4.3 tonnes and are sent to a ~22,000km apogee, and Falcon 9 routinely sends 5.5 tonne GTO satellites to a ~36,000km apogee. Inclination is a bit higher on GPS launches, but wont make up for lower mass and higher apogee. |
