| I have white spots on my gums. Is this cancer? What should I do? I've dipped for less than a year, what the hell guys? |
|
YOU---->Dentist---->ASAP!!! Dipping is one of the worst things one can to to oneself... It's a shame too, as many local boys (even back when I was a kid) pick it up as a 'country boy' rite of passage. I still know it's popular as I have to dodge spit spots at my local gas station. |

Man! You bastards are BRUTAL!!!! It's all fun and games when it's not your ass on the line huh?! Look, it may be anything, and I certainly wouldn't put off getting it checked out asap. I pray you don't have mouth cancer and hope it's nothing more than a few mouth ulcers (and a wake-up call). I used to smoke, (until the doc told me I sounded like I was getting emphysema). I then began to use Skoal afterwards to get my nicotine. I recommend using the nicotine patches to break the habit. It doesn't reinforce the habit of oral use like the gum would. It took two tries to finally quit, but I feel I've greatly extended my life by doing so. I wish you all the best friend. Big_Cheese |

| It's an easy thing to mock someone who's made a bad choice in their life. I made the same bad choice years ago. I corrected that mistake (as best I could) by breaking the habit, and it wasn't an easy thing to do. This could be a serious, life threatening, condition for this guy, and I don't think humor is the appropriate response here. I've been tobacco-free for many years now, but I was an addict. I started when I was a young teen. You haven't walked in my shoes, and you haven't walked in this guys' shoes either. So, feel free to take your turban off, wipe your ass with it, and wrap it back around your head, sport. It'll improve your appearance. |
+1 I still dip, it's a terrible habit and I could give you all sorts of excuses why I still do it, but they are just that, excuses. Remember guys, (There, but for the Grace of God, go I) |
| i had to have a lip biopsy done back in '88 for the same reason.a few little white bumps in my lip and off to the Dr. i went.he sent me to a maxio-facial(sp) surgeon.the Dr. there said it was from just having a foreign substance constantly in my mouth that irritated and burned my gums a little.he asked how long i had been dipping,i had been dipping for over 20 years at the time.my biopsy came back fine.he told me if i didn't have mouth cancer after that many years that i was lucky and probably never would have it.i should have quit then but i didn't,i know i'm just pushin my luck.i'm workin on tryin to quit now,it's not easy at all.i'm really tired of Extra gum.you definately need to see a Dr. about it,don't wait as this could be really serious. |
Thrush....that's what I said, only I called it Trench Mouth...SSDD |
There but for the grace of God, I decided never to take up the habbit. Personal choices. It's not like all of a sudden somebody ran up to you or him, put a gun to your /his head and said "Start Dippin' now or I shoot!!!" I also get tired of all the "You don't know how hard it is to quit smoking!" crap. Hey, guess what - you don't know how hard it is to never START smoking in the first place! The reason you and other people haven't quit isn't because you CAN'T, but because you DON'T WANT TO QUIT MORE THAN YOU WANT TO KEEP DOING IT! |
|
I have to agree with the rest here. This is not something to joke about. See an MD as soon as possible and seek a way to end your addiction. I don't want to give you false hope or delay your incentive to consult a physician, but for your sake I hope they are benign oral ulcers caused by the irritation of the product you are using. Good luck and best wishes. |
| I used some white strips yesterday too and the whitening agent got on my gums in the same spot. Could this be it? It started burning there right after I took them off. Regaurdless I'll quit anyway. The 2 spots aren't rougher than the rest of my gums, which are pretty healthy. |
All I did was reply to this guys post. All you have done is crap on it with your arrogant bullshit. Here's something for you to remember (It is far better to remain silent and be thought an idiot, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.) |
Just think of the phrase 'practice what you preach'. |

Get to the doctors - not a dentist. When you call to make the appointment, tell the nurse that you fear cancer and that it has been there for a little while - you will get an appointment today that way. Also, quit dipping you moron. It's gross and it will kill you. |
