| Whos idea was that? Friggin horrible. |

dude, I don't know what the heck you are talking about, that was the best performance of the National Anthem I have heard in recent memory. They didn't screw with it, they just got up there and sang from their hearts. If that didn't move you to tears, then you need your patriot card checked. |
|
Quoted: Quoted: [>:/] I thought the Dixie Chicks did a great job. Now Celine Dione on the other hand, they couldn't find an American to sing our Anthem? I thought Dion sang God Bless America? Did she sing the national anthem as well? You know what I mean. Don't be an Ass. |

The only think I have to add is... I'D HIT IT! [:P] |

I am NOT a D Chicks fan, not by a long shot. I like old country. But they did an admirable job with the national anthem. I hate it when singers try to get "artistic" with the anthem. The song is what it is. Quit trying to jump start your sagging career by #^$%ing with it. As such, they did a pretty good job. |
| The D Chicks sing the song "Traveling Soldier". As far as 'old country', the Chicks are definitely influenced by the 'old country' artists as well as bluegrass. Take a listen sometime to their latest cd. Their first releases were new country but if you listen to the songs not released to radio, you can hear the influences. |

I'll certainly hafta defer to your greater knowledge of them. I tend to NOT expend the energy of wading thru all the trials and tribulations of new artists. for teh most part. In my estimation, if they are still around in 5-10 years, then time will have proven the worth of their music. I just react negatively to the persona they develop, and let be developed, in the "pop" culture. Different folks, differnet strokes, I 'spoze. |

She might not be a Citizen of the United States, but she is an american, just as much as a a begger in Honduras or the President of Argentina is an american. North America, Central America, South America. It just happens that we are the United States of America. |

North America, Central America, South America. It just happens that we are the United States of America. I'm sorry, perhaps you are being facetious, but I must make the point clear. "America the Beautiful" does not refer to North America, South America, or any of the 20 mile wide stretches in-between. "America the Beautiful" is a song about the United States of America, period. Did you ever get past the first stanza? |

[;d] Start asking Canadian's if they are American and see how they respond. |
| garandman, I like more "traditional" country too, the good stuff that doesn't get played on the radio. The Dixie Chicks had a falling out with their record label over what kind of music they were going to record. They sued SONY and won, and their latest stuff is more of a return to their roots. Most modern country is pop music with a twang, and I don't care for most of it. Shania Twain, Faith Hill, and Shedaisy (SP?) are easy on the eyes, but they ain't real country. There are a few country artists left who didn't sell out, George Strait, John Anderson, Alan Jackson, Ricky Scaggs, Alison Krauss, etc... and you can add the Dixie Chicks to that bunch. I like 'em. Natalie Maines (Pasdar) has one of the best voices in country today. It ws Faith Hill, the Dixie Chicks, and Allyson Kraus that brought me back to country. The Chicks rendition of "Landslide" completely bitch slaps Fleetwood Mac in the pie hole. "With out You" and "You were mine" are both great songs. The sisters can play blue grass exceptionally well as well. The fact that 2 of the 3 have appeared pregnant in videos also leeds me to belive that their success must be from their talent, not their looks. G-Man, give "Home" a listen. It is all acoustic, and by god the Dobro is BACK! |

I know a lady at work that refuses to liste to the Dixie Chicks anymore becasue of some statement they made in regad to Toby Keith's Angry American Song....(the one where he talks about the boot in the ass) Anyone hear of anything about this???? I think the song is really good myself. My boy ~18mo really likes it too! It is the song we use to get him to shut-up on long trips when he gets fussy.... I prolly listened to it 20 times AT LEAST on the way back from Christmas Holiday! someitmes 5 times in a row! I do like the old stuff myself.... Who else sides' me listnes to ole Hank (Hank Sr. for all you freaks that think of Jr. When you hear something dealing with Hank Williams) |

I liked the anthem, and I love their current sound (back to their roots I understand), but that's bullshit. I was glad that they treated the anthem right without varying it too much, but when someone has to do a cover, I expect them to at least change the song up a bit. Doing an exact copy doesn't impress me. |

Quoted: For anyone who doesn't know the "boot in yer ass" story: http://www.top40-charts.com/news.php?nid=3488&compag=2 They all had the same questin as me....What about ole Earl?????? Note to self....feel very ashamed of that DC concert you took your wife to a fwe years back...LOL I think, might juss be ramblin on here, but I think this was a poor attempt at her trying to make herself look all high and mighty among the "pop culture elite" if there is such a thing... |
