Well, I'm in the Army and deployed at the moment.. however, I get out in June 07, and one of the schools I am considering is OSU.  I would appreciate anyone's opinions on the school who went there and left for any reason, who graduated from there, or is a current student.

The major I plan on going for is Business Economics.

Well, thanks in advance for the help.

It's obviously a well regarded school academically. As a freshman, the class sizes will be huge. Let me at least put in a plug for Xavier University in Cincinnati- smaller, more intimate, military friendly, After your time in the service, you may find a smaller campus more attractive.

Yeah, Xavier does look nice.  I'm a reds fan too, so I'd get to catch the games more often.  It seems to take quite a bit of applications for how many hey accept.  Also, the whole catholic influence.. but I'm willing to bend on that.  Thanks for the tip.

THE Ohio State University is huge. The campus is like a city. They have over 50,000 students and lots of hot chicks. IMO if you want the quintessential college party experience, Then OSU is a top choice. Lots of parties, lots of beer, lots of chicks. IF you don't like beer and hot chicks, then you may be distracted.

Both my wife and I graduated from OSU, our son just graduated june 2006, and both my wife and I work at university hospital.

Good school, nice looking girls around campus (it's a fringe benefit for me), the city is "okay" for a middle-sized, mid-western town.  It's a little dodgy south and east of the campus but the rest of the campus area is fine.

The business school is very good (and on the rise) with lots of new facilities, etc.

What the fuck have you been drinking.

I really dont think OSU will make anywhere near the top academically.  Especially for undergrad.

Look up their SAT and ACT score of incoming freshmen and you can tell.

Check out Ohio University versus Ohio ag tech State if you want an excellent party experience and an excellent education to boot. Ohio State is just too damn big IMHO.

In my college years (about a decade ago) Ohio State had some great parties, but also tons of fights over stupid shit. Most of the good bars are gone now anyway. Ohio is a much more laid back college atmosphere (think Animal House), and the chicks are just as hot. Too many cool bars in Athens to even start a list. And the parties...have you ever seen a "HUNDRED KEGGER"?

Did I mention we have a new football coach, and a remodeled stadium which is rated one of the finest in the country to watch a college football game. The basketball team is pretty good too.

First up, thanks for your service.

Second up, I cannot in good conscience let you consider a second tier "school" like OSU to attend. Please, consider the University of Michigan, the leaders and best.

GO BLUE!

My sister goes there... the few times I went there to visit I was impressed.    PIE EVERYWHERE!

Plus, all the places to eat and everything seemed great.

Never really had any expirence with OSU, but it seems cool too.   I always thought it would have been neat but I stayed home and went to community college.   I'll be graduated in Dec with no debt.

Actually I remember us (Ohio) winning the lawsuit. If I remember correctly Ohio State can no longer use the name "Ohio" by itself on their scarlet and ghey licensed sportswear without also including the name "State". I believe they also had to remove "Ohio" from their cheerleader outfits.

I think you guys won the right to continue doing your lame ass "Script Ohio" at half time.

I currently go to Ohio University and the atmosphere here is great. That "other" University up the road is just a big waste of money and in a bad part of Columbus. Athens is tucked away into the hills, and at first sight you would think its a small school, but when you get into it, like someone mentioned earlier think "Animal House" and you got it. 19 bars in a 2 block area.......come on, plus one of the biggest Halloween parties on this side of the Mississippi, actually I believe Playboy Magazine called it the "Mardi Gras of the Midwest". Good luck in whatever school you choose. But like I said, if you want to party come to a school thats been in the Top 5 Party School list the last 4 years.

The bucknuts arent that original either.

The script OHIO was started by the WOLVERINES during a halftime show to honor our foes.

Guess they liked it and picked it up.

OSU was the best 1 year of alchohol therapy I ever had.  I also found out during that year I did not want to be a civil engineer.  I left after the first year and kind of regret not going back but now that it has been 15 years I dont miss it too much.

Well, I have done plenty of partying.. I spent two years in Germany before coming up here to Hadji land.  I have 7 more months in Germany before I get out as well.  My main concern when it comes to student life is probally the dating scene.

Well, before this thread I had let family almost 100% convince me that OSU was the school to go to.  I'll have to do some more research on OU and Xavier for sure.

I graduated from OSU in 2000.  This probably wasn't the best place to ask about a major university and its virtues without getting a lot of noise...  I'm sure that was half the point of this post though

Business, Architecture, Chemistry, Ag. are all top tier programs, amoung others.  They have been raising the academic bar for a while now.  I'll tell you this-  I would not make it in there now with my lame-ass ACT scores!  The previous 2 university presidents made a big deal about raising the standards.  No longer do they accept anyone with a pulse, as the old saying back in the 60's, 70's, 80's used to be.

I'm sure OU, UM, Xavier all have great programs and lots of pie too!  Halloween at OU is legendary, and last I knew we had a decent road system in Ohio allowing you to drive on down to Athens and visit just such an event

If it's loose women you want, don't overlook BGSU, which I always heard was overpopulated with women.  The male/female ratio there was always heavily favoring women.  Then again BG is not as well known for some of their academic programs.  I'm sure someone here has all the academic rankings for Ohio colleges at their fingertips.

OSU was a great big-time university experience.  Don't go to a big U like that and expect anyone to hold your hand!  Hmm kind of like the business world...

Well.. I have about 25 semester hours that I've taken while in.. with a bit over a 3.0 gpa..

My HS GPA is a different story.. I won't say the number, but let's just say it's not good.

I scored a 21 on my ACT my senior year of HS.  I took it when I was still tossing arouind the idea of college right out of HS.  I am sure I could raise that score.

Also, I have a LTC (ret) JRTOC instructor who would write me a letter.  Also, I could get a letter from my old platoon leader who I worked my ass off for for over 2 years.

Yeah, I've heard the same thing about OSU becoming more picky on admissions.  I  believe I can get in to pretty much any of the state universities in Ohio..  I often hear that schools see the GI bill as a sure thing money wise.  I am really just trying to figure out which school is my first choice.

True, Buy it's AMAZING how many gun shops are just outside city limits. The largest class III dealer I've ever seen is Westerville, Ohio less than 20 min from OSU.

OSU is a fine school with a nightlife second to NONE in my opinion. Indoor and outdoor Rock Concerts, The Ohio State Fair, one weekend a year 1,000's of Hot Rods have there National Meet In Columbus, HUGE Gun shows, Car Shows, Octoberfest and more!!

Any other nazi gun laws I need to be made aware of in the Columbus area.. the NRA site doesn't metion much.

I was at a party in Kent State. An entire apartment complex would throw the party and well it got crazy with the usual couch on fire, maybe a dumpster. Well they lit a couch on fire and the police that were there making sure nobody did anything stupid went over to keep people from getting burned until the fire could be put out. So they decided to then set the police car on fire  Great party I tell you.

The Ohio law says that any gun that can fire more than 31 rounds without reloading is a machine gun, it is legal to own mags that are over 30 rounds but do put in in the gun

Oh and halloween at OU is a blast and not a far drive from OSU, it is worth the weekend trip and sleeping in your car. They litteraly close off uptown(it is really downtown but up the huge hill) and people get wasted and wander in the streets, they are band playing and people having sex in public. Come up with a good costume and you will have a blast. One year I was molested my the three blind mice, in the middle of the street out of nowhere. Then they were gone as a fast as they came.

That's correct because nothing like this happens in aNN aRBOR, Athens, South Bend, Bowling Green or any other college town.  Only in Columbus do they act stupid at the big partys.
