| Long story short some pimple faced ITT Tech dropout forgot to put my oil pan plug back in after an oil change. I noticed a sizable puddle after driving maybe 10 miles over the course of 5 hours. Dipstick was sticking up 6 inches so I assume they never buttoned it up at all. Should I chance the drive back to the service place, less than a mile or get that sucker towed on their peso? |

You should be lucky if they don't blame you..
I had a local oil change place put to much(1qt)oil in my daughters car..They also had every single tire at very odd air levels 10,18,40,10? I called to complain and mgr argued.. I drove down there and he continued to want to argue and even at one point accused me of adding oil and even letting air out of tires!! So?,,should you have it towed?..only if you want to pay a tow bill.. Go get some oil and add it and drive it to the place |

If they forgot to put the drain plug in you wouldn't have made it one mile.

Maybe op misdiagnosed the problem.
If it left a puddle maybe a loose drain plug, or double gasketed oil filter. Could also be a filter in a shitty spot that filled up a skid plate on removal and oil change place did a poor job of cleanup. Doesn't take much oil under your rig to look like the Exxon Valdez crashed in your driveway. |

I suspect the OP meant he left the plug loose. I'd call the oil change place, tell them what you've found, and give them the opportunity to make it right. If there was NO plug in the pan the oil would just pour out shortly after they started to dump it in (I don't care what kind of engine). No way they went thought their meager post work inspection and didn't notice the oil running out or that you were hemorrhaging oil as they pulled you out and sent you no your way. Any Update OP?? no plug would equal no oil which would light up your guage cluster before you made it one mile away.
double gasketed oil filter would have puked quarts almost instantly With the dip stick tube pushed up I suspect they added too much and it's burbed out the dip stick tube and floated up the dip stick. If this is the case oil getting on a hot exhaust manifold will burn your car down before you can blink. I would NOT move the car until you have the manager or a knowledgeable tech inspect the current situation. As said a 1/4 of a quart of oil on the ground to most people looks like quarts of oil. My guess is they dump your filter's oil on a skid plate when they removed it and that is what you see pooling on the ground. Again, Friends, this is EXACTLY why you do it yourself. This is barely harder than pumping gas but has such a high fuck up rate when you let other people do it for you. |
