| At what point would you see folks ignoring the ban assuming things go the way they have been and it heads for certain death. If July rolls around and all indications are the ban is gonna die would you configure your rifles anyway or since you waited 10 years 2 months is nothing. I guess another way to look at it is this. At what point will .gov loose interest in attempting to prosecute. The reason I ask is there has been little mention of AB violators to begin with in all these years I don't recall anyone getting nabbe for an illegally configured weapon. Would they(.gov) even care what happens 2 months before a doomed law ends? |

[banghead] First off the AWB expires! No if, and, ares, or butts about it, it goes away..... What will take it's place or come up between now and the time it expires, NO-BODY KNOWS! What the government will do towards prosecution of violators prior to it's expiration, who knows? I doubt very seriously, you would want to find out, atleast I dang sure am not interested in becoming a test case, so let's be patient and write, call and generally bug the shit outta any and all your reps, sens and in general anyone who has a say on this issue, okay...... Sorry to be so short, but how many more ways can you fellars find to ask the same question over and over and over and over and over.....ad infinitum..... Mike |

I know a lot of people who are already attaching collapsible stocks, etc to postban units because no one can recall a single instance of a prosecution for preban/postban attachments BUT It IS a 10 year Federal Offense is they DID prosecute and you could NEVER own another gun again FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! I've waited 9 1/2 years, I can wait another few months. (And I already have 2 prebans too![;D]) |

A lot of posters on this site haven't waited 9 1/2 years because they weren't even old enough to vote when the ban was passed and didn't find out about the ban until years later,if they even know now. I have waited and will continue to wait until the ban expires. |

Quoted: Its no guarentte that the AWB will sunset. What Fienswine's bill does is basically strikeout the sunset date. So enough of this "AWB will sunset"!! Just becuase I feel like picking on you... [:D] The current AWB WILL die. It's written in. Another bill HAS TO be passed to in order for the ban to be reinstated. Also, Feinstein's bill is a WHOLE lot worse than the current ban. While I wholeheartedly agree gunowners should not lighten up on the pressure, all current gun control bills are marooned in commitee right now. The commitee is controlled by Reps. Both houses are controlled by Reps. I don't want to give anyone an inch, but it does look like it may go away, at least temporarilly (depending on who gets elected). My only fear is a close race and Bush trying to pander to more "moderates", but he would have to convince more conservative members of congress. Also, as for the original question: If you got arrested TODAY for violating the AWB, chances are it wouldn't go to trial before mid september. Let the prosecution explain that to the jury. How do you get a jury to convict someone for something that isn't a crime anymore? It's hard enough to get them to convict for something that still is! |
