I am perplexed.

My gym uses Olympic bars made by Hammer Strength.

I am squatting more than in this video:

What are they making Oly bars out of now that they bend like that with such light weight?

First, I believe she's lifting 215kg, not pounds.  Second, it may be a women's bar which lighter and more whippy.  I don't know the color coding of the weights so I cant be sure what weight the actual bar is.

Ya that’s about 475 lbs.  I watched a documentary about her.

The bars bending was a bit unsettling to me at public gyms when doing squats. You keep thinking "Surely they didn't go cheap right?"

315 had some slight bend.
405 it starts to bend more.
500 starts making me worry. (I just add 2x 2.5s for an even 500 lmao) 🤣
585+ Makes me want to get my 1 rep max done as safe/fast as possible.

It's a 15kg women's bar.

For context, 15kg weightlifting bars are 25mm, men's 20kg, are 28mm.

Your basic gym does not have true IWF spec "olympic" weightlifting bars.  Sure, they're probably the same overall length using 2" sleeves, but bar diameter, steal, sleeve length and what's in the sleeve (needle bearing, bushings, etc.) could be anything.  They're probably cheaper steals with 28.5, 29 or even greater diameters.

The subtle differences in a bar can make a huge difference in the lift.  Squatting with a "whippy" bar is totally different than with a wider/stiffer powerlifting bar.  You can feel and time the oscillations to help you get out of the hole.  Or, time it wrong to help gravity staple your ass to the floor.

And Olivia is fucking awesome.

Kinda weird seeing USA on the podium, let alone the top of it.

I used to follow it pretty hard through the teens, we had some great lifters, even some competitive on the women's side, but come World's.......those old com block countries and China would wreck us.

I don't follow olympic lifting as closely as I do power lifting and body building.  Apparently, she also broke the Clean and jerk world record also.
