June 13, in 1920, the U.S. Post Office Department ruled that children may not be sent by parcel post... Well, there go MY summer plans.... ![]() |
What's I find funny about all this, besides my twisted take of course, is the fact that the USPS NEEDED to make it illegal. ![]() Were people shipping kids BEFORE they made it illegal????? I mean...they didn't even have tracking back then! What if you shipped your kid to TX and someone in GA shipped you theirs and THEIR kid was even WORSE??? Did they have "return to sender" back then???? |
hahahaha that's *exactly* what I was wondering ! |
I thought the same thing. Of course parents did some crazy things back in the olden days. It must have been awful to feel so desperate. My Grandfather was abandoned when was 10. His Mother had left his father and moved to California. His father got a job in Montana and made it known that Grandpa couldn't follow. He eventually got a job sewing wheat sacks and eventually got a job for the Job Corp [part of the new deal - to this day he'll argue Roosevelt was a God]. I can't imagine abandoning my kids at age 10. Mind you, its crossed my mind a few times since the daughter hit puberty - but she was still pretty sweet at age 10. Patty |
