| Hey y'all. My 90 Chevy k2500 with the 350 has started this intermittent issue. Occasionally on throttle it will cough. It feels like the engine stalls then comes back on it's own. It hasn't stalled on me yet and it doesn't do this reliably. Just random. Seems to do it most after it's been running for a while. I replaced the entire EGR system recently. The spark plugs/wires are fairly recent (maybe a year old) the distributor cap and Rotor are newer than that. Ignition module is about two years old. Coolant temp is new as well. Any ideas? |

I will unhook the EGR today. I already warrantied one of them damn solenoids maybe this one is junk too. I'll have to get some new vaccum line and replace all those hard dry line. The MAP sensor I haven't replaced, maybe that will be next. Thanks for the help y'all |

Thanks for the help y'all When I was doing this a couple years ago, about half of the newly-purchased, brand-new emissions systems components were defective, right out of the box. |

Spray the area around the ignition coil with soapy water and see if it stalls.
Lots of possibilities here, but that is the only ignition part that hasn't been listed. Used to see this a lot with early 90's GM vans(I guess due to the heat). They would arc to the mounting bracket and stall out. |

Thought about another possibility today............pickup coil inside the distributor. Look for fine cracks on the pickup and check the wires going to the ignition module. Seen quite a few that were corroded pretty bad. Honestly the only way to diagnose this is with an oscilloscope.

The ignition module in the distributor is prone to failure on these tracks and can cause similar issues to what you have going on. https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1052301,parttype,7172,a,www.google.com%2BSearch%2Bfor%2B1990%2BCHEVROLET%2BK2500%2BPICKUP%2B5.7L%2B350cid%2BV8 |

I've had the ignition module replaced by my mechanic. No telling what quality of part he used. (I never knew the damn thing existed). This pickup coil contraption someone mentioned seems to be a good place to start as it's a low buck part. Where is it? Under the distributor cap?
Ocsillioscope. New word for the day. Thanks for all the help y'all |

UPDATE.
During a short break in the rain today I popped the hood and being that so many here suggested an ignition issue I simply pushed on the distributor cap and noticed it was loose. So I tightened the screw and the issue hasn't returned. Feel kinda dumb but at least at fixed. Thanks again ARF |
