Chambered, safety off, unrestrained guns while driving in the field. What could go wrong? This. Safeties have a purpose. As do empty chambers when they don't need to have a round in them. The safety off was the issue. We roll hot all of the time out hunting but the safety is on when it's riding in the truck with the muzzle down just in case. Obviously the muzzle was down here too so the risk to the occupants was minimal. |

It reads that you roll hot all the time hunting, But safeties on while in the truck.. which I took to mean that when you are on foot you don't use safeties.. Am I the only one that read it that way? |

Wow, we always drove from one place, to the other, when hunting with actions open. Different strokes, I guess. How did you spotlight and hunt from the truck without a round in the chamber? It only takes a second to chamber a round.. No varmint is worth someones life.. |

Am I the only one that read it that way? When I'm stalking, depending where I'm at, sometimes the safety is off and sometimes it's on. A hog can hear the click of a safety from 20-30 yards at least. So if I'm in thick stuff where I could be in close before I see or hear them then it's off. When we're running traps and we're loading or unloading hogs from traps or into a trailer the safety on the AK is off. If we're riding in the truck or anytime I'm not physically holding the gun the safety is on. |

I'll carry safety off with one in the tube on a bolt gun, but I'll pull the trigger and relax the striker with the bolt handle. Lift the bolt handle and close again to reset the striker and the gun is back in action.
AR's I'll run Amber, safety on with the bolt open. Close the bolt and your rockin. The diesel clatter and the bolt going into battery is the last of any vermon's concern at that point. Like the new drain hole though...
