I took my P239 to the indoor range yesterday. This was the first time I had shot it, and it had been a while since I had done any shooting at all. The results were pretty much what I expected. The P239 performed flawlessly, digesting a total of 250 rounds without a hiccup. I used three brands of FMJ and two brands of hollow points. My performance was less impressive. I need a LOT more practice. I was disappointed at how much my skills have deteriorated since the last time I practiced regularly. Another problem is that I recently switched from glasses to contacts, with a stronger prescription, and I can't see the sights as well. I really liked the DoubleTap 147 grain +P Gold Dots. Not much more recoil than 124 grain practice ammo, and it actually seemed to have less flash than at least one brand of the FMJ. I intend to keep it loaded with this for CCW and home defense. Fortunately, a local gun store has FMJ on sale. I'm going to stock up and go to the range every weekend for a while. My CCW class is in a few weeks, and it requires a trip to the range. I'm determined not to embarrass myself, and besides, shooting is just one of those things that I want to be good at. Especially when I'm going to be carrying. So, my conclusions are: 1) SIG rocks. ![]() 2) My shooting sucks. 3) Shooting is fun. |

I had a well worn P239 in .40 I carried CCW for 5 years. The only complaint I had was the weight, and that's why I sold it, but now I really miss it. Shot a lot of rounds downrange, never ever hiccuped, not even once. It's an excellent design. I will probably end up picking up another on, maybe in 9mm this time. Excellent used examples can be found for $500 or so. |
