Anyone else trying this one?

http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/p90x3-workout.do?code=BDL_X3_P90X3

Looks to be a combination of P90X, Insanity and P90X2.

I'm doing the fit test/pics today.

The Big Change is going to be diet.  This is where I've always failed.

I've got it.  Did the first workout "Total Synergisitcs" last week, on Tuesday, then proceeded on Wednesday to catch a nasty ass cold that I am still trying to get rid of.

If the first workout is an indication of the rest of the program, I am going to like it - a lot.  I've done P90X for years and did a couple rounds of P90X2 (didn't like it as much as X), along with some off time hitting the free-weights and biking.

As soon as I get rid of this funk, we'll be jumping into it full tilt.

-edited to add- Diet is always my biggest enemy as well - and age hasn't helped any either.

Dan.

OK...1st workout down.  Impressions:

1.  It is a good workout.  Lots of balance required for some of the moves.
2.  30 minutes is very doable.

3.  Dreya Weber is BACK from the P90X video.  She has aged very, very well.  I mean, you could cleanly break a 2'x4' across dat ass.

I got it a few days ago and my wife let my kids give it to me for Christmas.  I think I'm going to work  the doubles program and see how it goes.  Seem feasible to you that have already started?  I'm in the middle of the beta phase of T25 and it's not worth the time.  It's a lot like Insanity would be if it wanted to be X2 without the weights.

OK...I'm not doing the Yoga again.  Sorry, Tony, but it just isn't me.  I'll substitute an Insanity workout or something.

I find that I hate yoga, not because it's stupid, but because it's hard.  I'm sticking with it this time.  I skipped it in p90x.

Week one complete.  Stutz may have shamed me into keeping the yoga.  It is...hard, especially for a pudgy little fuck like yours truly.

That's why I hate it.  I have seen the scrawny little chicks doing it and making it look easy.  Then I do it and it's the hardest thing I'll do all day.  It's probably good for flexibility and I know it's a huge core strengthener.   If they just didn't call it yoga.

So what if you are completely out of shape and are not able to do a single pull up? The most I was ever able to do in the Marines was 12 and since I got out, I have gained about 70 lbs, up to about 250 now. I am not trying to cop out of doing them, I just flat out don't have that kind of upper body strength anymore. Does P90X3 have alternatives that I can do to build up my upper body until I am able to do them?

Yes, you can use bands instead of doing pullups or you can use a chair to help get the pullups done.  There are people that have done it that were in much worse shape than you.  You just have to keep doing it and watch what you eat and drink.  My problem is alcohol.  We're starting a winery and maybe a microbrewery next year, so my life kinda revolves around alcohol.

You can definitely do this.  There's a modifier in every video that shows you the way to do the mods.

What about food? One of my buddies did the original P90X and said that they wanted him to buy their food. Is this still the case or is this doable on regular food you can pick up at wally world?

Just eat clean food and watch your intake.  No fast food or processed junk.  No sodas or dessert.  My guess is you need to stop eating the way you have been.  A very large part of your success will be accomplished in the kitchen.  I've never bought any of the beach body supplements.

Hit the nail on the head. Since I got out, I have worked offshore with very little time at home, so most of my meals are crap accompanied by a soda or two. I am trying my best to get away from the sodas by drinking water w/ one of the various flavor additives. I will be done in the oilfield in about 6 months, going full time with the fire department so I will be able to have more say in the food I eat. I love chicken and vegetables so I think I will be able to follow a good meal plan.

290 calories in a 20 oz Mt. Dew.  That will wreck you if you have one or two a day.  You'll learn to like water.  Sobe Lifewater is pretty decent also.

Started yesterday myself. Last year I completed p90x (Last years thread). I got lazy and life got in the way starting in July. Continued working out 2-3x a week but started eating poorly. Then I had stitches in my back in a few places in late September that stopped me completely for 2 months. So I'm pretty much starting from the beginning, but my beginning is a much better one than last years was

I'll try to give the occasional update as time allows. I hope I like the rest of the workouts like day 1...

CVX worked my ASS OFF today. You think oh 10 lbs is nothing I'll be fine. 30 min later I'm freaking spent. Really enjoying this program so far. I really enjoyed the p90x yoga when I had time but this one is ok for a stretch day I guess. In a few weeks that will be all it's good for though I think.

Got body fat calipers today from amazon. I'm right at an avg of 15% from the 5 differing tests I did today. Will also update that through this as well. 5'10 (on my best day) and 148 lbs right now.

I do yoga (not as part of P90X) and it is hard.  And it never gets easier because once you master one pose, then you move into another, or deeper into that pose.  BUT those skinny chicks who can one thing?   they can't do another.  Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and your practice is your practice.  Don't look at everyone else, concentrate on yourself.  Those skinny chicks won't be able to get into a handstand probably but you might be able to (after a while).  I started yoga weighing 272lbs, no one cared and I am much more flexible now.   Best of all it improved my lifting and other exercises, because I now have the flexibility to do things.   I love wearing gun shirts into yoga class, always the best.

Agreed - I didn't care for X2 much.  Although X3 does utilize several of the balance moves from X2.

I'm getting ready to start the sixth week of the X3 program.  Since it is only 30 minutes (roughly), you have to really push yourself to take full advantage of it, but you can get a great workout in that time if you do.  For us, it is hard not to justify having 30 mins to workout every day too - so we haven't missed a day yet.

X3 uses a lot of compound moves, so you work your whole body in almost every workout - even the ones that "focus" on certain body parts.

I still think P90X is a better overall workout, particularly for someone just getting off the couch, but you have to dedicate A LOT more time to X than X3, which causes a lot of people to quit after a week or two.

+1 to pretty much all he said. I think once I start getting more time I will do a hybrid of both programs but with my extremely tight schedule p90x3 is pretty awesome.

I'm up 2 lbs but dropping fat. Looking more defined. I haven't remeasured my body fat since it's only been a few weeks but I can tell a difference.

Yep going on 40 days and liking it so far.  I am just trying to get in shape and tone up a bit.  I was 6'1 and 185,  now i'm 192-193 and getting a little bigger which is what i am wanting.  My wife is doing it she seems to like it also.  She is not losing the weight she is expecting but i can see her toning up a little bit.  She isn't dieting for shit either so she is kinda being counterproductive but i'm done opening my mouth about it.

I'm kinda doing my own thing at this point. Started that yesterday. There are several workouts I haven't done and I want some more core instead if just upper/lower in the 2nd phase.  About to throw Pilates in for the first time. Fingers crossed it doesn't rape me too bad   Cvx and incinerator are my favorites so far.

ETA: ah shit. I felt like I haven't done enough core until today. Getting out of bed tomorrow may suck. Hard. Pilates, you win this time...
