so im about convinced to buy this thing.
Anybody have any direct experience with this thing? i dont have a problem with weight, Im crackhead skinny. I just want to put on some muscle and have never been able to stand hanging around at a gym. Will i have to buy an expensive weight set like i see them using on TV? Will my downstairs neighbors want to kill me? Is it worth the time and money? |

I got it but did not stick with the program, but I can tell you that there's no way it cannot work for you if you stick with it. It's very well designed, it just wasn't for me (at least at this time).
You can save yourself some money and buy it on Ebay or I've heard |

I am doing the plan on and off, however I've changed my eating habbits per their meal plan. I've lost 15 lbs. easily. If you stick to the meal plan and workouts, you WILL gain muscle! I love the workouts, just don't have the hour-plus a day 6 days a week to devote to it. I work 5-10's plus comute time. I'm away from the house almost 12 hours a day 5 days a week. Add to that 2 kids 5 and under. It's challenging to keep up with the house, kids, wife, workout, etc...
Anyway if you don't have so many other committments and can truely do the plan all 6 days a week you'll get great results! |

Bench, Squat, Deadlift.
Once a week, each. Warm up with 10 reps, 8 reps, 6 reps, 4 reps -never to the point of failure. Then go for the max, once or twice. Eat lots of chow; meals between meals. Then eat MORE chow. After a few weeks, add "accessory" exercises: Low box squats, close grip bench, incline bench, upright rows. Always lift heavy, do not over-train, or you will injure yourself. |

I've heard that P90 and P90X are solid programs, but have never tried it. My mom used it and had good things to say about it, but she thought the workouts were a little too long.
I have been doing Crossfit for about a month and a half and am loving it. Plus it's free! The thing I like about crossfitting is that the workouts are incredibly intense, but they are always shorter than 30 minutes. And you will not ever be bored doing a movement. You might wonder if you are going to die (kidding... kind of), but you will not have the capacity to be bored, or think of much of anything else. Generous application of power lifting, plyometrics, running, rowing, pull-up (and basic gymnastics ring work). www.crossfit.com There is a link on the main page that directs you over to the BrandX forum where the mods scale the workouts for us mere mortals (start at the buttercup level for a few times no matter what your ego tells you). On the left side of the main home page click "Start Here" and then click on "BrandX Scaled Workouts" or some such. The BrandX forums have a bunch of very helpful folks that are willing to answer questions no matter how dumb (ask me how I know). The concept of this program is fitness as sport. In other words, you are competing against others doing the same workout, and you post your times on the forum. It really is a good motivator. The goal is to achieve fitness in all categories (strength, stamina, power, etc.) and I enjoy the process. ETA: I would recommend that you really have a sit down with yourself about your real goals. See the problem is, you have stated your only goal as being to put on muscle with no other goals such as health, well-being or general "fitness" If your only goal truly is to put on muscle without caring about health, start juicing and start lifting. "But, that would harm my body and be illegal!" you protest. So another goal emerges, you do care about your health too in the process. I personally don't give a rats ass how much muscle or fat is on my body, or how I look. All I care about is how my body works and performs at the tasks I call upon it to perform. You will find that most athletes whose bodies perform reletively well tend to have a pleasing physique as a by-product of sport. You will also find that alot of gym rats with similar physiqes, that bench and squat a ton are incapable of transitioning into sports easily due to a lack of flexibilty and an imbalance of strenth. | p90x is NOT nor was it designed to be a muscle gaining/bulk program. Look into Scrawny to Brawny and also crossfit for better results. |

Im in good shape but i would like something that will assist me LEARNING how to develop muscle mass. I have a gym at my apartment but i dont know how to use the equipment. You can go to the gym every day and throw weights around but if you dont know what you're doing its only going to get you hurt or waste your time. You're post kind of makes me wonder how you're built btw. |

A close friend got into the crossfit stuff before he went off the the military and he was really lean and cut up when he left. I think i might go the crossfit route. I was planning on investing my tax return in a gym membership and a personal trainer to set me up on a program but I would rather be able to do this stuff when i get home from work so it will be easier to compress everything into my schedule. |

I belong to a gym where I did it for a week. I did it because I had a change of schedule that week so I could go to the class.
It kicked my butt and I'm in pretty good shape. I have BAD shoulders and can't do pull-ups worth a cuss. I had to use the rubber bands and even that was tough. The leg session was brutal. I still have buddies that do it and they're enjoying it. All that being said there sure is a lot of gayness/grab-assery in it. |
| I completed the P90x program and stuck to the diet 99%. I did burn alot of fat, but I also lost alot of muscle. I lost about 20 pounds off my max bench press also. I do LOOK great, but physically I am in worse shape because I burned quite a bit of muscle. I did the "doubles" routine for the last month, which does cardio in the morning and the workouts in the afternoon. Granted I know I went overboard on the cardio, because I love to run, and that's where I ended up losing muscle. I did increase my max pullups from 10 to 17, but I think that's because overall I lost about 30 lbs. It is a good program to lose fat and get some overall fitness, but not ideal for adding mass. The workouts move too quickly, they are more of a cardio/weight session than a mass building session. It depends on your goals. |

just got the dvds or should i say files.
i started on monday with the workout. diet would be tough though since I am on the road a lot. i am out of shape and am an exsmoker so it definitely kicked my ass. it was tough to take a shower or put on clothes the next day. |

Ok...here's my opinion...first, you should post in the Fitness forum....next AGW knows what he's talking about...you might not want to act like an ass, he might just be able to help you out...
Next, lets compare 3 programs.... P90x- seems like a good program, lays everything out barney style....there's only like 12 repeated workouts though. You will NOT get big and strong on this program. You will probably gain a little muscle and definition though. CrossFit- Great for overall fitness. If you do it long enought, you will become pretty good at everything, but you won't be "awesome" at any one thing in particular. You will get pretty strong (but not as strong as a power lifter) and pretty fast (but not as fast as a runner). You will gain muscle for sure if you eat right. One con is you need to figure out your own diet thing. I just prefer to eat "clean" (if it wasn't alive I don't eat it) and I practice Intermittent Fasting (that's a whole other thread) Starting Strength- You'll be a monster. You'll get big and very strong. You will also get slow, and gain some fat. Many people do SS for a few months then switch to CrossFit to cut out the fat. Personally I do CrossFit. I also supplement with sets of heavy squats, deadlifts, , over head squats, cleans and shoulder presses. I feel that this method beats the hell out of P90x any day of the week, although it depends on goals too.... For example, if you just want to be healthier, either program will be fine. If you want to be able to PERFORM, Xfit is better....what I mean is that if you were to take 10 CrossFitters and 10 P90xers and have them do- max set pullups, a 5k, heavy squats, pushups I think you would find the Xfitters would generally outperform the P90xers. |

P90X is for former athletic types who want to overhaul themselves and get back into shape. It's doing a great job on me.
If you want to bulk UP then then P90X isn't for you. This program makes you stronger and leans you up. If you don't need or want the cardio burn - do another program. That said, you WILL get stronger with P90X...if you do your part. To argue otherwise is ignorant. There are other and from my view better ways to beef up though. P90X is a "build while burn" type workout program. I'd follow Cinncinatus' suggestion myself. There's dozens upon dozens upon dozens of testimonials of P90X on You Tube, check em out. Still, I think you'd be better off aiming your wallet elsewhere. Nice job on the motivation though - that's half the battle.
