I just got one for the kids.  Two questions
1) what are some cool games for me?  I almost bought one called "Black", but figured I'd check here first.
2) Are there on line places to buy cheap or used games?

Rent games before you buy.

Black is fun, but it was too easy, and almost too simple.

Great, I'll go rent Black.  Sounds about beginner speed, which is just right for me.

My favorite series of games has been Ratchet and Clank.

More cartoonish I guess than Black, but if you like weapons that increase in capability the more you use them these games are great.  Lots of blasting fun!!!!!!  The best gun is called the R.Y.N.O.  And yes that does stand for RIP YOU A NEW ONE.

Black was ok.  It's cool for the first few levels, but then get a little repetitive.  It also has the cheap way of making things harder.  Instead of sending smarter, better armed enemies at you, they just send a higher volume of enemies that can take more damage than the old ones.  I just feel that's an easy out for a developer, and ends up being rather frustrating for me when playing the game.  I'd rather fight fewer enemies that give me a better fight than a higher number of cannon fodder enemies that you just end up hoping you don't run out of ammo of health halfway through killing.

A good example of a game that did it right was F.E.A.R.  Those guys were smart, and could give you a heck of a fight.  They seemed to get smarter, and were definitely better armed as the game went on.  I don't think it's available on PS2, but it is on PC, and I think it will be soon, if not already, on 360.

OK, starting to get the hang of things.  Is there a place like netflix for games?  Can you copy games on a dvd burner?  Is that ethical, if you paid for the rental?

Thanks

The Netflix for games is called Gamefly.  You can see the commercials for them on TV sometimes and I think they're pretty funny.  Yes, you can copy the games but you need a modded PS2 to play them.  I don't know much about it other than it's possible.

I've used Gamefly for over a year and love it.  You get to try out lots of games and they sell their used ones pretty cheap.  Its also nice if you decide to keep a game, just clink "keep it" on the website and they send you the box and your next game.  Several times I've played a game for an hour, got fed up, and dropped it in the mail the next day.

Black is OK, very aggressive (suicidal tactics work best) gameplay, 10 hour game, rent and return.

Any of the Socom series are good, combined assault is the most recent and the only one I'd buy, for the online play.

Buy Gran Turismo 4 if you like racing games, definately one to at least rent.
