This morning on the radio they played an ad about PTSD and it rubbed me the wrong way and I wanted to see what you guys think of it.
The ad is narrated by the veteran. The veteran says I was at my daughters wedding and some guy kept shoving me. After awhile I asked him if I knew him, if I had somehow harmed him or his family he stated that we did not know each other and I had not harmed him or his family. He then shoved me again so I slammed his head into a table. My daughter said she and all of her friends thought it was cool. My other daughter said that I needed help. I sought help and received it from a professional psychiatrist PTSD is not cool, seek help if you need it. This was on 97.1 the ticket in Detroit, MI this station often has ads from places in Canada. It did not say that it was produced or endorsed in any way from the US .gov. What does the hive think of this? |

Quoted:
So you are being physically attacked, strike back, ending the attack, and that equals PTSD? That makes perfect sense. If you don't think about it.
Right. The crazy thing was it wasn't a direct advertisement, there was no come see Dr. Smith at Shrinks R Us or anything similar to that. |

There have been a lot of WWP advertisements about the cray cray lately, but none of them have involved a vet being violent. Are you sure it wasn't a skit/fake ad done in poor taste? |

It really didn't seem like it. But I was kinda about it towards the end of it so I could have missed something.

Try using the term "PTS" in the future as it's not a disorder but rather a normal human response to repeated, life threatening stress. Everyone deals with it in their own way and in some cases it makes life a bit rocky. I'm sure the radio commercial is much like the scooter commercials. The .GOV is probably giving out money to these companies and it's in their best interest to convince as many people as possible that they're PTS'ing hard.
I'm waiting for a commercial that shows a home invasion, the guy's wife being assaulted and him then kicking the home invader's ass.....the commercial then cuts to a guy white coat saying that this was classic PTS and you should seek help at "X" clinic. |
