| Do you empty out the drawers in furniture, pack the clothes or other contents into a box; or just take the whole drawer out and then put it back after the dresser or chest is loaded on the truck? |

One of the most helpful things I've done when moving (many, many times) is to label the boxes with a "code", and then make a master log as to the contents of that box. For example: Master bed room labeled as MBR #1, MBR #2, etc. Then the log would read something like MBR #1: bedside alarm clock, electric blanket and controls, wristwatches, mattress pad, etc., etc. By doing this, I can unpack the most necessary and important boxes first, and leave the less needed boxes to unpack at my leisure. I've got a few boxes that have remained packed for quite a long time, simply because I haven't needed the contents of that box yet. But when I do, I know exactly which box to open. I would also buy good boxes that can take the heavy weights when stacked. This may be more than you wanted to know, but it does take a lot of the "pain" out of moving, and allows you to get settled quicker. Have fun. |

I did some move management for a large project; Don't pack the boxes too heavy--they'll break open. Tag each box at the end, so they can be read when stacked tag them numerically, ie box #1, and what room they should go to Pack them so they can be closed. This way they can be stacked on dollies and in the truck. Keep a log of what is in each box (e.g. Box #1 "kithcen utensils"). This will come in VERY HANDY when you're trying to find something after you move in. . trust me. Definitely take out stuff from drawers. This will make moving the items easier for the movers (lighter) less likely to damage furniture and/or movers. They'll appreciate it. Move personal items, pictures, etc def. GUNS/AMMO in your own car or in friends'. Get boxes from movers---they're designed for the job and will stack well. It'll cost you, but it is worth it. If you have room in your new place, fold them and store them flat, then you can loan them to friends when they move, use them for storage of out of season clothes, etc. Tip the movers---generally $20.00 per person. |
