I can't check back in the thread until I get home from work. I had a head cold all last week which turned into nothing but icky-lungs since Friday. I've been coughing up some nice lung-loogies for days. Sometimes I get coughing fits and can't stop, but I deal. Well shit, this morning I notice there is blood in my previously non-bloody lung-loogies. How serious is this? Do I have to go to a Doc? - BG |

Nothing to worry about. Your cold has about run its course. The phlegm is starting to get "thick" and is getting harder to expel. The coughing fits are cause by post nasal drip itch in the back of your throat. All of the hard coughing has irritated the lining of the throat and cause it to become red and inflamed. This causes a bit of blood to come out as well. Go to the pharmacy, buy Mucinex (Guafenison). Take two tabs in the am and two in the pm along with some cough medicine for the evening to stop the post nasal drip. 2 days your symptoms should begin to clear up. A week should be gone entirely. If after a week there is no improvement, then go to the doc. |

PirateBill gets a digital Casio watch without a wristband... and some naked midgets I "accidently" downloaded in college. DV8, the phlegm isn't thick... its actually quite viscous. Plus, my coughing fits are because I can't breath and the crap is just gurgling up and blocking the wind. I hack it up and it is rather smooth... nice texture, really. My throat is doing fine. Saw some blood at lunchtime, but none during the "test loogie" an hour ago. - BG |

There's a bug running around. My MD (who actually hesitates to Rx antiobiotics) gave me a script for them. I still have coughing jags, and I've been post meds for almost a week. +1 for the Mucinex - you might want to get the Mucinex-D (signature at the pharmacy counter) for the daytime. |
