My bumpers & mirrors on my 10+ year old Toyota are startin to show their age.

Have access to a paint booth, but will have to supply my own paint gun.

Recommendations for:

1) Paint gun (detail or full size / cheapie or good one - please suggest brands)

2) primer - do I need any? rattle can after cleaning with alcohol or acetone or ???

3) Paint - not concours, but decent - what do I ask for and where to buy? This is pedestrian beige - no fancy stuff. Doesn't have to look perfect but durable in PA salt and gravel would be great.

thanks!

This is not really a do-it-yourself job, unless you have all the materials.  When you factor in the primer, the basecoat, the clearcoat, the solvents, the activators, the sandpaper, and everything else; it's just not worth it.  An average HVLP spray gun is at least $100, and painting takes a lot of experience.  I still screw up occasionally and I've been painting ten years.

If I were in your situation and you wanted to save some money, you could take the parts off, prep them yourself, and have a body shop paint them.

If you're dead set on doing it yourself, you could buy a Devilbiss or Sharpe 1.4 tip HVLP gun for around $100.  PPG's Shopline is the economy paint we use.  You could also try a single stage paint so you wouldn't have to buy basecoat and clearcoat.
