Great pics!

I got to that 3rd to last pic and saw "POGs" and started laughing thinking it was referring to something else.

I would go to that museum almost every year growing up.  Dad did 20 years in the Marines and we would vacation on nearby Fripp Island.  Mom and Dad would go to the commissary for groceries and us kids would kill time in the museum.

The only picture you should have left out is the "DI Speak" one.  I don't ever need to see the word "scuzz" again.

EDIT:  I think they've got quite a bit more in there now than they did in 2006.

My Bunkie and I went on Base Lib Sunday as I families weren't close enough to come.   It was 1 Aug 1982.  What a stroll down memory lane.
Thanks Bama Shooter.

Looks like they've done some update. I strolled through there on my liberty Sunday when I was there 11 years ago. Thanks for posting Bama!

Been there once as a recruit, once as a marine, and once as a veteran years later. Thanks for the memories OP.

Surprising, Camp Pendleton and Camp Roberts Army National Guard and Travis AFB in California all have large vehicle and aviation displays. 3rd Infantry Division in Savanah, 82nd Airborne Division in Fayetteville and 1st Armored Division in El Paso, TX have nice displays but I can't recall Quantico does or not. It's been a long time since I was there. Have you ever visited the museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland?

He shot Expert on the rifle. Nice.  Well done.

'Course I did it back when we used iron sights.  You know, back when the Corps was hard.

Thanks for the memories Bama. Spent many hours on that parade deck. That picture is almost exactly where my family stood on graduation day.

One thing I love about these threads is that I can't be everywhere at once and even if I could, I still might miss a detail or not have time to see everything. We've gotten to see police, USMC and NASA, what's next on the list?

If you're ever up around my area let me know I'll take you over to the First Division Museum on the McCormick Estate Cantigny. I guided at the McCormick mansion for about 4 years.

Awesome!   We vacation in Hilton Head first week of June each year and I've always talked about going over there, but haven't yet.  Think I'll add it to the list of things to do next  year.   I know that sometimes graduation is around the same time we're down there as we often see a lot of vehicles on I-95 with windows painted up with praise for their newly minted Marines!

I think we went there towards the end of third phase but I honestly have no recollection other than a Korean war vet talking to us.  It might have been somewhere else where he talked to us though.

Did you notice if they were selling the bricks from the old 3rd Bn barracks there?  Serious question....

There was something posted on a FB group that I'm in that you could call the museum and get one.  Nobody was able to ever get through so we don't know if they sold them all or what.

Edited to add Plt 3091 3rd Bn H Co 1988

J blomenberg--GREAT place to visit--just don't kill any sand fleas, boy!!  Went there 6 or 7 years ago to relive my youth, looks like a lot has been added...

And there is some museum now close to to Quantico, saw it driving around 3 a.m.--looked like it had a really tall foyer?

“The National Museum of the Marine Corps is a lasting tribute to U.S. Marines--past, present, and future. Situated on a 135-acre site adjacent to Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, and under the command of Marine Corps University, the Museum's soaring design evokes the image of the flag-raisers of Iwo Jima and beckons visitors to this 120,000-square-foot structure. World-class interactive exhibits using the most innovative technology surround visitors with irreplaceable artifacts and immerse them in the sights and sounds of Marines in action...”

Very neat! If you ever get near Triangle Va. visit the National Museum of the Marine Corps. I find something new every time I go there.
