Just put together a new system: Intel core 2 duo 1.86 GHz w/ 2 GB ram and a 320 gig SATA HD.

I'm about to format and install Win XP home. I'm thinking of partitioning 10 gig for the OS, 80-100 for applications and the remainder for data / media. Sound reasonable? I'm still kinda new to this.

'Puter will be used for some multimedia stuff like home photos and videos, a lot of web surfing and a little gaming (non-cutting-edge gaming).

Any on-topic advice appreciated. Linux / Athlon cheerleaders please keep it to yourself. We all know your stuff is better so don't rub it in.

Yeah, but I think I'd give the OS partition a little more room. Maybe around 30gb. It tends to get pretty gunked up with stuff.

I say at least 30GB for the C drive. If you fill up your media partition, you can always add another drive. That would be a bitch to manage with your C drive though.
