There is a short thread on this in EE and I got the e-mail this evening. Supposedly Paypal has settled a class-action lawsuit and everyone who registered between sometime in 1999 and Jan 31, 2004 gets a settlement. The thread on EE said $50 each but I haven't read the fine print. Wasn't sure if it was SPAM/virus so didn't actually open email or follow any links. Anyone know for sure if this is legit? |
I also got the email notice. If you want to verify it, go to www.paypal.com and search for a reference to the lawsuit. If you read the fine print in the notice, it also says that if you except the ruling, you may not individually sue them in the future about whatever they were sued for this time. They make it hard to exempt yourself though. You have to send in letters of exemption and such. I've never had a problem with PayPal, but if they want to send me some money based on something they did wrong, I'll be happy to take it. |

I saw this in the past and only got to look at it tonight... it looks legit and given I am trying to find a place to take my business elsewhere anyways... I filed and so did my wife as she also had an old account from before we were married. I have had these A-holes cancel payments, block payments, and and scan the text of my payments to see what I am selling and block the sale of everything from AR-15 barrels, firearms, and other stuff... I have also had them pull money from my bank account when they shouldn't have and that really pissed me off... PAYPAL sucks but thousands of people use it which means I will continue to use them as long as I don't have another choice... I am looking at getting a full merchant account and then I could take CCs myself but that is a hastle too! It is a shame as PayPal used to be a good thing... not any more! |
