One of the nights camping I got this shot of the Milky Way from a Bortle 2 sky area. The lens is an old 24mm manual focus Nikkor AI-S on my D850 and has some coma issues in the corners but overall I'm not too disappointed with my first good shot of the galactic core. This was 36 exposures of 6s each stacked in Sequator. I downsized the 200MB image to 7MB for arfcom hosting Attached File |

This is right by the Hells Backbone bridge in south central Utah near Escalante. Nailing focus with film and an old school view finder with a prism is a learning experience for me. I wanna say this was shot on a 50mm f/1.4 nikkor AI-S lens from the 80s. I do know as I was shooting these (it was midday) I was stopped down to no more than f/4 so I'm leaving a lot of depth of field on the table when I could easily shoot f/5.6 or f/8 with 400 ISO film. The Nikon F3 does have a good light meter in aperture priority so I should probably stop more to see what shutter it is recommending at more stopped down apertures with midday light. I'll use the excuse "film is grainy" but I also know Portra 400 and the Ektacolor 400 film I was shooting on is capable of very good sharpness as the grain is quite small on those film stocks. I've got some Portra 160 and Ektar 100 that just was shipped to me to go out and try to get some more landscape shots during some upcoming trips. @FredMan I believe the tree is exactly that, a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine. This one is particularly cool as the roots wrap around and almost strangle the sandstone rocks underneath it. |

About 350,000 board feet of pine logs awaiting the saw. Kept under a misting system (as opposed to a sprinkler system) to maintain wood moisture content, which in turn keeps fungal growth down, which in turn keeps the wood from "staining up". Bark insects carry around blue-stain fungus on their bodies, and that introduces, well, a blue stain in the wood from the mycelia. Has no effect on the structural properties of the wood, but the marketplace has decided that it looks bad so nobody wants it. Tragedy has struck!! So I'm at Va Beach for the week for vacation. The have a pretty good fireworks show here; they haul everything out a quarter mile or so into the ocean on a barge and light it up. I'm in a 12th floor oceanfront condo. So I got here about 6:30 yesterday evening, had a few drinks, and set up the camera and tripod for the show. I took roughly 600 frames. And at least 6 drinks. So I come inside after the show to do some LR work and regale everybody with my photography prowess. Incidentally (and this is key) I pretty much filled up the 64GB card; I've got stuff on there from two other projects and never got around to deleting them. So I import the raws into LR. And then I go to the card and delete everything I took on July 4. The ting is, though, I hit the Done button in LR, and not the Import button. Fuuu.... First time I've ever done that. @fredman, Unless you "formatted" the card there may be a way to recover the files. I've seen it done before but never did it myself. Worth looking into. Don't know the op system you use but if windows this may help.. Remember google is you friend. LOOK Here some recovery software EBR |
