I'm thinking of getting a BCM M4 upper with 14.5" pinned A2X, how do you guys like your pinned 14.5s?

[#1]
Always liked mine and have no desire for 16".

It's the way to go on a carbine length gas system.

I've got a 16" middy, I was thinking carbine length for the 14.5

I have 2 BCM 14.5 pinned lightweight fluted  keymod (w/ MFT minimalist stocks) uppers, they are great.

Why?  Do you like shooting the 16" mid?  If yes, get a 14.5 mid, you'll like it better
1/13/2015 7:39:54 PM EDT
[#12]
MIne is GTG. BCM 14.5 middy with battle comp. I love it. No need for a 16 unless you want to be able to remove the muzzle device easily.

Uh, just giving him a hard time? Since his post is word for word the same as mine other than carbine/mid?

14.5" LW mid gas.  Standard carbine buffer, you won't find a smoother shooting rifle without a longer barrel

I'm sure it's nice, see my post above.

I had my bcm midlength cut and pinned with an aac blackout before the 14.5" midlength was offered or was cool and I'd do it again without hesitation. No ragrets (not even a single letter )

My flame thrower is a 14.5 middie with pinned Spike's Dynacomp. Fine rifle.

I have owned 3 16" from various makers all sold now, and 2 14.5s from bcm they are great

I only have 2 complaints

1. of the 3 bcm uppers I've owned only 1 shoots steel cased ammo- its was my gov 14.5 carbine gas my middy 14.5 would not cycle steel
2. bcm does not use a colt barrel nut so KAC rails do not fit on them properly. ON 20" BCMS  this is not a problem just the 14.5s
1/13/2015 7:46:40 PM EDT
[#21]
Better hope the brake/FH on there is one you LOVE. It's a pain in the dick if you ever want to change it. Or put a rail on....

I regret buying my 14.5 pinned. Is it handy? Yep. But I'd rather get a 16" and be able to mod my rifle without taking a drill press to it.
1/13/2015 7:47:29 PM EDT
[#22]
The dwell time on a middy 14.5 isa little less than a carbine 14.5 so go with the carbine length gas system for a little more reliability. A bayonet will also work with a carbine 14.5 with A2X FH, if that means anything to you. Bayonet will not work with a carbine 14.7 with A2 FH.

My BCM middy 14.5 wasn't reliable with steel either so I lost my enthusiasm for the middy 14.5. Just not enough dwell time in them.

Love mine.

One of mine is a Colt barreled 14.5 with a Phantom FH. I like it quite a bit but as another poster said, better be sure you love your FH/muzzle device.

Mid length 14.5 is awesome.

Huh, that's funny, I only shoot steel in mine. I've never had a hiccup.  And it stays dirty.

14.5 + Middy + pinned Dynacomp MB + H1 buffer =my favorite shooter.

I have one PSA 14.5" carbine, and soon plan on having a bcm 14.5" middy. I like the pinned 14.5" way more than I do 16" rifles. You can tell the difference.

My Colt 653 "CAR-15" replica. 14.7" with pinned A1 flash hider. Didn't want to use the extended flash hider required with a 14.5" barrel.

This place cost me so much money they are running a dam good sale I may pick up a 14.5 this week since they are running the free bolt carrier now.

My longer 300blk is a 14.5 with a AAC mount pinned. I have no use for another muzzle device so it's perfect for me.

I have two M4s and like them.

Sucks that BCM dropped their LW 14.5 carbine upper.

Do you have a can, want a can?  Keep in mind you need to consider that.  I have one that I will need to remove and replace, so I can use a can.

I have an A2X on (2) rifles, (1) carbine and (1) middy.
The only issue that I had was not being able to utilize a blank firing adapter until I took a belt sander to one (BFA), now I don't have that issue.

Carbine pictured:

ETA: I have other uppers for cans.

Got a 14.5" pinned midlength lightweight 5.45x39. Out of a 10.5" carbine
and two 16's in carbine and midlength it is my favorite.

ETA: pic whore thread.

14.5 pinned sounds a lot more appealing now with the Voodoo Manimal flash hider. It's a .748 diameter extended birdcage type flash hider so you can service .750 gas blocks and barrel nuts over it so you're not nearly as limited with gas blocks and rails if you want to change stuff down the road. I'm planning on getting one for a trunk gun build soon. If you want a suppressor obviously that won't work, but for its purpose I don't want it to be NFA anyways.
