Saw an area gun club today that shoots USPSA competitions. Looks interesting.

What kinds comps do any of you shoot and what is the guns of choice? Is any of them ore realistic to daily defensive needs than others? Or some of them just more "Plain fun"?  Thanks.... fullclip

I haven't shot alot of competitions lately,  except for police stuff.   I am hoping to find more time for matches this year.  If you are looking for something along practical/defensive competitions try the idpa.

I just shot in my first IDPA match yesterday, and it was pretty damn fun!   The weather really sucked, so it was a bit of a damper on it, but it's probably the most fun you can have with your pistols.  I'd say, give it a try!

I missed the Texas Tactical shoot yesterday because of pinewood derby (Cub Scouts) responsibilities.  Mike Webb runs a REALLY fun and challenging competition!  I strongly recommend it.  You have to try the tactical carbine matches too.  It's a hoot and open to just about any semi-auto rifle.  What I find amazing is that it can be equally fun whether you're serious about competition or just there to bust a few caps.

You were looking at "open class guns" they also have a "limited class" this is basically stock gun class. Comps and optics are not allowed.
Around here 1911's and glocks are popular.

Try it, you'll get hooked. It's really fun and your shooting skills will improve.

I have shot in 3 IDPA matches so far, and had a blast in all 3.  Somehow though, I appear to be getting worse instead of better.  Don't ask me how.  I'm thinking of dumping my glock, since there's some things about it I don't really like when shooting IDPA.
Its a great place to learn things like that, what works for you and what doesn't.

thetwo guns I have to choose from to shoot are a Tarus PT92AF and a Rught GP100, 6" bbl.
The club there also had some competitions for revolver only.
Is thee a best choice, revolver or auto, or is it mainly the shooters preference?
Would a revolvers 6 rounds put me at a severe disadvantage?? Thanks.. fullclip

I would(in fact I do) shoot the taurus. The hich cap. plus ease of reloading will help you greatly. Limeted class is far from stock. Those guns have many modifications(magazine wells, extended everything...)all but compensators and scopes. Just take the taurus, 4 or 5 mags, a holster and lots of ammo. Ask ???'s to the people at the shoot. You'll find them to be full of info.(some will be full of something else.) Don't try to be competitive at first, just have fun and BE SAFE.
