| Don't know much about plate tectonics but I was wondering would having such a major release of energy on the fault line make it LESS likely for an equally major quake to strike closer to Tokyo with obvious orders of magnitude of greater destruction. |
| Earthquakes, by definition, release pressure. It's kind of like an emergency release valve. So in general an earthquake will make future earthquakes less frequent or less powerful. But I suppose it's possible that some of the earthquake's energy could go into tightning a certain area and making the next earthquake there worse. |

Earthquake predictions: http://www.nextearthquake.com/ Interesting website. |

This site does a better job of graphically breaking down the locations and stress types associated with tectonic plate convergence in the region than anything else I've seen.

The USA would fall into the Atlantic Ocean.
Talked with my Aunt last night that lives in Alaska and she says usually they have a quake after the Japan area does. But that's just based on a personal point. So guess we will see. Wonder what would happen if Kalifornistan moved 8 feet. |

well... it did move Japan 8 ft... I also heard today that it also caused the earth to tip 10* on its axis, which will affect the length of a day and seasonal changes until it corrects itself. LOL at Arfcom counterintelligence. |

Read an article yesterday that it shifted the earth's axis ~4 inches. 10 degrees is an enormous amount |

So they are saying that its close to 10,000 confirmed dead and estimating as high as 100,000. With nuclear drama thrown in. With more big quakes to come. Wow. Sucks to be Japan right now. |

Ya 10 degrees would be a rather large shift. It would make eating tacos easier. |
